Which the best faction according to you ?? And why | The Barbarians, because they aren't on your list. >_> | heh=) elfs very good for beginner. easy to play. | Your question is more tricky than what most people will yell (ELVES!!)
Because in fact, it's related to your level.
At level 1-2, from my own experience, Dark Elves were very, very strong.
At level 3, Elves get Bowmen - the most feared ranged unit so far. Each faction get units, but Minotaurs or even Ghosts can't compare to Bowmen.
At level 5, each faction gets a new unit, an upgrade for its level 1 unit, and an access to specific buildings, like the Mage Guild, and you start having access to Talents. It's at level 5 that the game really becomes interesting.
At level 5, Elves get Druids - rock-solid units able to cast spells. But other factions get interesting units as well. Necromancers gets Vampires and their skeletons becomes bowmen.
In my point of view, Necromancers is the most powerful faction at level 5-7, simply because you have to kill their units two or three times to ensure victory.
At level 8 you get another unit and another upgrade. Necromancers get uninteresting plague zombies and Liches; Elves get Unicorns and Wardancers, a very powerful Forest Keeper upgrade. I'd say Elves rule again at level 8, but I have to play a lot more before proving it.
Further? I can't tell. But when Wizards have access to Modern Golems at level 10 and their unlimited retaliations and their ability to be repaired by Gremlins, it won't be easy to defeat them.
This being said, every faction can be strong if player properly. It's not the usual wise marketing words I write here. While playing Elf, I've lost to really smart Knights and Barbarians in duels at level 4-5. Bear in mind too that changing faction is free at level 1-2, somehow easy at level 3-4 and next to impossible afterwards.
So choose wisely. | knights they ar at greate numbers and get best talents =) | I started with knight, seems a lot of pople seems that knight is the worst faction. I tried to changed to necro... Don't know the result yet.

Those stacks of Swordsmen are already the last unit killed on the battlefield... I think Knights can really become powerhouse, but at high level. | Swords are pretty durable:) Griffins are a great unit just 2 bad u cant atk with them at the 1st turn:D You have to move them 1 space closer. I think Knights will become strong when on level 5 when they get monks and replacement for bowmen - crossbowmen. | for quest i find the elves and demons best
cuz if demons prform gating the ''Quest units'' olso attack the demons from hell

But in my eyes, elves get quite annoying after level 3... | My opinion is,Knight is better than necromancer.Why?
This is only at lvl 1-4,when the knights can surround the bowmen with melee units and let the bowman shoot from afar.Babarians and other factions simply fall to these formations.When you got your arrow finished,simply use your melee attackers to finish of the rest of them.
Conclusion:lvl 1-4 use knight.

for one thig, there are 3 games:
vs neutrals (hunts and merc)
best - wizzards, due to their high dmg spells
2md necro, since neutrals wont block corpses
3rd is elves due to all are favored
1 vs 1
best= elves due to great ranged potential and only 1 target (but they get ceamed by high hitpoints with high spell or dmge capabilities)
2nd knights, due to slow but powerfull swordsmen
3rd necro, since opponent cannot spare a durable stack to block corpses
groupbattle
best are barbs, durable, high dmge, resistant to spells, slowsness is where you have parners to compensate
2nd knights again, due to swords again, about as durabhle as ogres and range resistant
3rd demons or dark elves, both good auxilirary
worst in group are elves, the bowmen get gangbanged and the druids only have 2 spells.
all in all, i think both elves and knights lack spell dmge potential, elves need to decide in the first 2 turns, knights are slow but strong.
barbs have ranged and melee, but totaly no magic,
demons with spawns cream magic reliant races, but are weak against no magic users
necros do steady when they can annihilate some enemy stacks (to prevent corpse blocking), but are at a loss against wizzies (next to no life draining vamps)
wizzies with good mini srtifacts can own a lot, but their mages are weak
dark elves, well, either ye go the high dmg low hitpoint route and use arrack, or ye go the high hp route and use spells for main dmg source, ans dep on opponent one or other is the best way, but ye cannot always choose.

do keep in mind thou, this is my opinion and only appliable from lvls 5 to 7 | elves are so overpowered with their bowmen that it's an easy choice for which is the best faction - elves until and unless they finally nerf them.
As far as I'm concerned, Elves have only one disadvantage. Nobody really wants to play with them. And that's the proof they are unbalanced right there.
Go look at the battle list and see how many people say "no elves" compared to "no anyotherfaction" That should convince you if nothing else :-) | All factions is good, if to be able to play. But I give a preference Barbarians or Necros. | Elves are great for hunting, but groups? Duels? Puh-lease... | i think necros WITH skel archers should always pawn elves at lvl 5 or maybe even 6. | the elves are powerful no doubt BUT they dont have many melee units,they only have forest keepers,elite version of fk,and unicorns(sure they have faries/sprites but no1 uses them much)and im an elf myself fyi | I've back to knight...
