Author | Alt-grades that reward those that cross factions |
I'm thinking of something to reward those that have spent time working hard in multiple factions, a faction alternate upgrade that a player may choose if he wants
If a player has a Factional skill level of at least 3 in another faction than the one he or she is in, he or she can choose an alternate upgrade that replaces the tier upgrade they currently have available or have already taken.
Here's an example using Necro:
If the Necro has 3 factional levels of Knight, she can choose to replace Skeletons archers with:
Skeleton Swordsmen:
Attack 2
Defence 3
Damage 2-2
Hitpoints 6
Speed 4
Initiative 8
Undead.
Or a Necro with 3 faction levels in DE can choose at high levels:
Poison Lich
Attack 16
Defence 12
Damage 12-15
Hitpoints 40
Speed 4
Initiative 12
Shots 5
Range 6
Undead, Large, Shooter, Improved poison, Poison Cloud
Improved Poison - Besides taking damage of the attack, the target will be taking additional damage for two full turns, each time it would gain its turn. The damage taken every time is as much as there were poisoners at the moment of their poisoning attack times 10. The damage is earth elemental, so certain modifiers apply to it.
Poison Cloud:- The ranged attack of this creature deals normal damage to the target, then deals 25% the damage to all the non-undead creatures adjacent to it. The creatures around the target are not poisoned.
Or maybe a Dark Elf with 3 faction levels in Necro can get instead of Lizard Assailants:
Tamed Vampiric Lizards:
Attack 10
Defence 7
Damage 8-10
Hitpoints 40
Speed 7
Initiative 11
Large, Drain Life, Lizard Charge
So that's roughly my idea. Feel free to give comments as I slowly think up other alt-grades. |

The idea is very nice :)
However in from a more serious point of view - it would be extremely hard to maintain balance among factions with these things - the testing needed before something like this is introduced - without ruining the faction balance - is frightening :(
But from a flavor point of view this idea is brilliant :) |
It's to encourage cross faction playing and I'm trying to maintain balance.

Also faction level 3 is too low :P you can get faction 3 in any faction within a week doing group pvp - something along faction 6 or 7 would be more appropriate for such a powerful option. |

Perfect idea :D... hmm... skeletal bowman can be upgraded to skeletal swordsmen (as you saw) or skeletal Crossbowmen (crossbowman but undead :D) |
that is a pretty cool idea. that would be really cool if the creators actually did that. this game would be alot more funner with that. awsome idea takesister |

I think we should only put same tiers together ;)
and this would mean 42 new troops for each faction (7 troops for merging with each of other 6 factions).
It would be absolutely AMAZING to play the game - but as said before, it would take an enormous amount of testing and I think admins here are a bit too lazy to do that |
16: lol lazy? Do you have any idea what amount of testing balancing a game like this takes? Admins are probably doing hundreds or even thousands of fights with every single new creature and change its stats around before releasing it to make sure it doesn't get too overpowered or too underpowered. Faction balance is one of the major things in this game that distinguishes it from the vast majority of browser games.... 7 completely different factions so far - each one having completely unique playstyle and yet all 7 feel nice to play after you see them enough... It's maybe easier to balance stuff coming directly from homm5 since most stats there should be more or less similar but for new things the work needed is far harder. |

I know jabbar and that's what i said :) Most of the troops we have now is from homm5. So there wasn't that much of testing to do (except with the talent wheel).
But to make 42 new troops would take a lot of testing - that's why it's not going to happen |
