| is there a way to make yourself get ambushed more often? | Yes and No.
Yes: Constantly move around the map, do nothing else
No: It just depends on how many people that are your level, are thieving

LS | One more thing, if you are get ambushed and lost the battle, you are free of thieves for the next 3 hours.
