105% magic protection?

Author105% magic protection?
Hi all,

I have read from varies posts in the forums that an armorer can enchant up to a max of 20% (element) magic shield.

I also read that the enchantments on different arts are cumulative. Eg: if 10% water shield on a headgear and 10% water shield on a footwear = 20$ water shield resistance in combat.

So if a player wears 20% (element) magic shield for head, body, foot and shield = 80% (element) magic protection. If the element is say Air, and u wear a Cape of Wind, the player will get....... 105$ Air shield resistance (!!) = Air magic will have NO effect on that player at all in combat (!?!).

This really looks too good to be true. So where am I looking at it wrongly? :?

Thanks in advance. :)
Well, nobody knows or some perhaps bc'oz nobody has that much enchant to test
i thought it was calculated differently. E.G 100 damage. 20% reisistenace = 80. 80 - 20% = 64 damage and so on. so 105% is impossible
then just use fire magic instead of air magic
so 105% is impossible

Well, anything above 100% is immaterial anyway, since u can only suffer 0 damage, and nothing more. :p

But I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that armorer enchantment is indeed cumulative. (It's that forums site dedicated to this game, I think).

But my Q is not whether it can give 105% protection, but whether in reality, if there are level 9 armorers, we can get 100% protection. :)
the formula works like this

1-(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.25)
=0.6928
10% + 10% != 20%

It is calculated like this. (100% *10%) + (90% *10%) = 19% A 3rd 10% would actually add 8.1%.

Also over 100% is still useful. Dark Elves have piercing magic.
1-(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.25) = 0.6928

This means 69.28% resistance?

So if a hit is supposed to deal 100 damage, the troop will be dealt 30-31 damage instead?
k, stoopid Q time from a sux-at-maths fella. Does this 2 gives the same result for a particular art? -

1-(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.25)

(100% *10%) + (90% *10%) = 19% A 3rd 10% would actually add 8.1%.
the troop will be dealt 30-31 damage instead?

Yes.

1-(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.2)(1-0.25)
=0.6928

Is the highest you can get without Barb levels with your list of artifacts
pantheon was using 10% bonus as example

1-(1-0.1)(1-0.1)(1-0.1)
=0.271
=27.1%

so your scenario only gives 69.28% resistant instead of 105%
It's not additive. 20% x 5 enchantment will give 1-0.8^5 = 67.2% protection.
oh oops, don't refresh a page before posting and this is what i get. haha, mm please delete my post, there's a mistake in it anyway.
so your scenario only gives 69.28% resistant instead of 105%

Oie, I got it. Since my scenario is more or less the max one can do (not taking into account faction) to protect against a particular magic, can we safely say that in the present scheme of things, 69.28% is the max resistance one can get against a certain type of magic?
Also I should point out due to the way the formula is setup it is impossible to reach 100% unless you can get 100% resist/proof from a single source.

You used the cape of wind for the 25% part. There is not an eqivalent cape for all the other types of magic. Also the calculation doesn't take into account arts that give magic resist such as the mithril helm, chest, and boots.

After arts and enchants, there are magic proof/resist from the special abilities of certain creatures.

Then faction racials can act as magic resistance.
Also the calculation doesn't take into account arts that give magic resist such as the mithril helm, chest, and boots.

hmm.. never thought of that. So for air resistance, you can actually get MORE than the 69.28% coz I know certain arts provides overall magic resistance aswell.

So (without me going into all the maths), Can I safely say it's possible to get 70-85% magic resistance for certain elemental type?

Yes.
Wel i have a q- Does barb magic shield stack in this enchant ?

sure, just look on the modern golem abilities. just 1 big magic shield could kill those chaos spells cast on it :)
