Author | Swordsmen or wolfhounds |
sword is a tank and is often the last unit standing (and winning) on the battlefield, while wolfhound is more of a damage dealer who dies first. hard to compare :D |
Well, I'll say wolves win.
Considering their stats, each wolf deals 3.333333 avg dmg to swords, each sword deals 3.3 avg dmg to wolves, which is nearly identical.
Swords have 1 more hp, but that wouldn't save them since wolves have so much higher ini. Wolves will be able to attack 3 times (a little more), while swords only get 2. And their higher speed also means wolves will get the first strike. Ah, I haven't mentioned about the gated stack yet have I?
So for the swordmen, their only chance is stun. |
BTW I think it's pointless to compare units like that :D |
All of you..
According to the question..
This is just swords vs wolves, no heroes, neutral vs. neutral essentially
swords probably win, unless wolves can get hit + retal, and then hit, then swords turn.
If wolves can gate, wolves win. |
sorry double post..
19:
First, you will NEVER get retal off a wolfhound with a bowmen, and hit them with swords...in fact, I would say 1 wolf take retal, then major stack hit, wolf probably win.
And I'm guessing your swords can't do 600 damage in any PvP without luck, and even with, I don't
---------
Now how about cerberi vs. guardians?
CERBERI!! |
Now how about cerberi vs. guardians?
CERBERI!! |
i know mino kills them but i am not asking about them-
ivo678-yes swords are probably better |
but rage is very useful. |
cerberi vs. guardians?
lol, without moral triggered
10 cerb will defeats 100 guards
funny things...
well wolf 4 attack-swords 8 defense
i dont know why, but ONE of my spawn can deals about 35 dmg on thief battle
arts? maybe...

ah, i just remembered it again. I ever misclicked and ended up just sitting around in front of these swords without hitting and being retalled by bow! lol
btw, long time no see mate :) |

lol..
It really depends on a few things, like can the wolf gate? Would there be heroes to attack? Could the troops be split?
@aRU: yeah, admin got so lazy I left, but the game is so good I came back :)
but now admin seems to have left us again :(( |
okay there are many different theories about what is best
for me it is swordsman.
though it really depends on your type of playing.
they are pretty much even.
If u like defensive then choose sword.
If you want straight out attacking and damage then choose wolfhounds. |
I will say it again. On a one-on-one battle, wolfhounds will win a majority of the time. I can work out a typical battle for you (where each creature will do exactly average damage each time). The only chance is if swords get lucky with a few stuns (but I can work that into the calculation too).
But this is not a fair comparison because it ignores a couple of useful abilities of swords that don't come in here, namely Rage and Shield.
Also, the original question asked what would happen if two sides have only wolves and swords remaining. In that case, swords would likely win because by that time, they would have built up quite a bit of Rage.
You can also look at this another way, which may be only marginally relevant. Judging by the hunting records (take a look yourself), every faction except necro would prefer to face swordsmen than wolfhounds as neutrals. Clearly, for the same number of creatures, people find swordsmen much easier to defeat. Again, take this with a grain of salt, because when (human) heroes come into play, things can be quite different.
And if you have some skill with map-making for HoMM5, you can create simulation map in which you pitch them against each other, and record the number of wins/losses by each side. I have no doubt what you will find. |
i observed-that was not max demons-
https://www.lordswm.com/warlog.php?warid=480358248
this was my multi a while ago-I lost to a knight.
ok, my multi is trying max demons now-
3 imps, 38 demon, 11 wolf instead of
3, 31, 14
I think your strategy was flawed. Ok This is what i would do.
1. Recruiting. Recruit Max Wolf Hounds. Next make sure you have like 5-6 Imps. and all the rest in your demons.
2. Make sure you are not over powered. (Don't let a full art Knight beat you up when you are not wearing any arts.)
3. When in battle, Keep your wolfs and demons in one large stack. Split all the imps!
4. Don't bother gating with stacks of 1 imps. Charge right in with the 1 stack of imps. Be sure to not take the stack of 1 imps and Stack all of them in a pile. Split them up!
5. Gate with hell hounds and demons.
6. While moving with your units. don't use your hero and attack the large stacks of bowmen.. it won't make much of a difference. instead attack their stacks of 1 farmers...Bowmen...and swordsmen!
7. Move your hell hounds up but make sure their swordsmen can reach. When you made holes in their defense for bowmen. (Takes two rounds usually and 1 if they're defending w/ farmer/1 stack of bowmen.) you probably won't lose much.
charge in with your hell hounds and kill the bowmen.
8. Use imps to take ret. for swordsmen. the rest is probably obvious what to do |
we are talking about level three swordsman and wolfhounds
minos have nothing to do with it. |
xxfaithxx -if attack stack of 1 there will be rage |
xxfaithxx -if attack stack of 1 there will be rage
still better than lose ur retal |
i think the answer is very simple.. All depends in ur tactics.. Hound can kill if breake ret and strike ( Maybe atk 2 times one behind other because more ini ) But if u use swords very nice.. they slow but a tank.. u can win with them if u play nice.. A hound vs sw, can win anybody of them =) |
( Sry for double answer ) Of course if u dont breake ret and u put the dog in front of him very near.. U can know who wins ;) |
It is just completely useless to compare. Swordsmen have the same position in a knight's army as demons have in demon's army. They are tanks - the stack which survives. While demons are fast damage dealers who get wiped the first.
Besides - factions are balanced overall. That doesn't mean one unit vs another or one stack vs another but the entire army.
To sum up: different factions have different troops in different numbers. And only when you look at the army as one it is balanced |
While demons are fast damage dealers who get wiped the first. I meant wolfhounds
sorry for double posting |
