I've done this many times, the above question.
But to my suprise, it wasn't methanol but ethanol. In my memory, methanol burns with an almost invisible flame, and only generates little heat, but ethanl has that light yellow flame. Maybe I momorised wrong :D

you are in a room with 3 switches. each switch will turn on the lamp in other room (there are 3 lamps there). you have no way to see what's happened inside the other room. you have 10 minutes and then you go to the other room and stay there to answer which lamp is turned on by which switch. how do you know the answer? |
switch them on with intervalls. one at the beginning, one after some time and one just before you go to that room.
there you touch the lightbulbs. hottest was switched on first, coldest the last. |
