A lot of factors depend on it such as your style of play, whether you prefer PvP or PvM or just like to have a balance of sorts as post#22 suggests. Magic works well for PvP and thief (to an extent, though might is better imo) whereas might works for PvM and is also the most popular choice for thieving. If you don't want one or the other or can't choose I'll just do the balance thing.

All the vanguards are possible (except perhaps necro which needs good arts and luck), armies (except necro and elf), tier 1-4 creature raids (some may need better arts), monsters of shooting creatures with no melee penalty. Escort missions are still a bit hard for DE and can be left alone till lv7.

Invaders also best to be left till lv7 unless you have killer arts.

after getting expert offense, battle fury and cold blade which is the best next talent to get

i've always gotten basic leadership or luck as the last talent, but i just noticed that you can also get erudition instead

so basically either +1 morale, +1 luck, or +3 attack

since 1 attack is ~5% damage compared to ~10% increase in damage for +1 luck, would erudition be a better talent?

as you say it gives you ~15 % compared to the ~10, but always a bit different how important people think that luck and morale is...
No matter what it would say it would be better to have erudition and advanced offence rather than expert offence.

to 28:

+1 attack << +5% damages.
it's more like +2-3%

1 attack is worth +5% damages only if your attack is very close to your oppent's defense.
but this value of 5% decreases a lot when difference between attack and defense increase:
if attack = defense, +1 attack = +5%damages
if attack - defense = 10, +1 attack = +3.33% damages
if attack - defense = 20, +1 attack = +2.5% damages
if attack - defense = 30, +1 attack = +2% damages
...

exemple:
i looked at your profile, you have 20 attack and DE faciton level7: your shrews have 27 attack.

if you go on a hunt against creatures with 5 defense:

damage multiplier from difference between your attack and the creatures's defense is: 1+(27-5)*0.05 =2.1

now if you took +3attack:
damage multiplier is 1+(30-5)*0.05=2.25

it means that an attack dealing a base of 100 damages (after all other modifications like expert offeznse or cold blade) would deal:
210 damages with 27 attack
225 damages with 30 attack

your +3 attack gives you +7.14% damages, and not +15%
your +3 attack gives you +7.14% damages, and not +15%

talent is depends on wad kind of hunt and whom ur are facing

Hunting melee attackers:Basic Leadership and Rally OR Basic and Advanced Fortune
Hunting ranged attackers(shooters):Basic Offense and Tactics
Im trying out magic DE. What i wanna know is what talents and army i should be taking. then everything else is accounted for.

PS. im getting poisoners and mino upgrades ... in a few days

Max Minos, Hydras, Poisoners. Few shrews for blocking reasons maybe 3x2 and rest lizzards.

Talents is up to you either poison build with exp. darkness + dominion of pain.

Or a fireball build with or without elemental call. I used basic chaos + elemental call + advanced sorcery.
