just speculating:
ubisoft can do something about it only as long as the servers are located on us soil. currently www.lordswm.com traces somewhere in Los Angeles.
if the servers would be physically relocated outside of us, then us jurisdiction vanes. more to the east you move them, harder they would be reachable (hint hint...) | for naviron:
Ubisoft is a French company and there are international laws regarding intellectual property. So I don't think the solution is that easy. | ok, didn't know ubisoft was french.
then move it even more to the east... how come the .ru server doesn't have such problems as .com? i don't think the similarity that ubisoft is after reduces only to language. put the .com server just next to the .ru server, wherever that is. | Actually, the .ru server is hosted in the US as well. I think it was near Washington, DC as I recall. I don't know why there are issues with the .com version over the .ru version... Honestly, I'm surprised that both aren't in trouble. Quite a bit of this game seems to be directly lifted from Heroes.
Anyway, all of this is beside the point. If they shut us down, it won't matter what the cheaters did I guess... | I know this is off the main topic. But it does tie into what some of the post talk about.
First let me say that I really like this game, but I have a bad feeling that something big is about to happen. It would not suprise me one bit that I try to go to the login page and it tells me that it can not find the server. Admins Pulled the Plug.
Arctic's conversation lead me to believe this. As well as the fact that paypal is not currentlly avalible. That may not mean alot but I had been friends with a player until he posted this on his personal info page and has not been back on since.

If this is even remotely true and the admins decided to shut down .com then legally everyone that had donated would have a case to get there money back.
They say "donate" but whenever a player can not come up with the gold to buy a TGI and resorts to "donating" to be a theif. Then you are buying a service / experience in this game that would take a normal player a long while to build up the gold to buy.
This is Just my opinion, and I hope Im wrong. | Heh...good luck. I know if I wanted to be an a-hole I could just do a charge--back on the 500+ US dollars I've spent here as well via Paypal-- but I won't.
I got my money's worth. Granted, I had hoped I could play here for YEARS. The little time I did spend here was fun (GAME/ACTUAL PLAYING-wise, did not agree with MANY administrative decisions).
But yes. That is the biggest flaw with paypal...people can get their money back very easily. Got scammed once on E-Bay for 400 bucks (mailed somethin, person claimed credit card fruad, i lost my item)...and since then never take payments via paypal for anything :)

LS | Hmmm... I hadn't noticed that PayPal was unavailable. Been awhile since I bought diamonds. The argument that they will prosecute seems questionable, as does the fact that you would be owed your real money back. That may be the case, but I find it questionable.
Nonetheless, the fact that it is no longer available as a donation source is certainly troubling to say the least. I m p layng this game 1 year and 6 months i think, and it was dead a year ago, bfor grand updates, and then it was beter, now it is dead again, and seems like its dieing every day more and more.
See, out there is soo much great games, whit high resulution, options... and more more cool things. BUT what we all doing? We are LwM, and we still playng this game. And we love it the way it is. I am tolking from my experience. I was for time gone from this game, played another one, but i am back, and still playng, this is best game for us, it s our part of life... i think lot of u agree whit me...
cuz its is PART of my life.
So, i hope, and i will keep belive this server will survive, and all problems what have to this server will be some how resolved.

aah the admins beloved .ru, maybe this isnt too bad after all. Admins would not shut down .ru no way! | There's definitely some irony in a situation where this server would be threatened by legal action, while everybody here complains about cheaters going unpunished.
But I'm optimistic by nature. The game is promising and shows a lasting interest - it's one of the best flash-based online game at the moment, hands down. .ru exists for years now, and this is just the "international version" of it.
I tend to think that cheaters don't really threaten the game - the higher the combat level the rarer they become. To me AFK players are more of an annoyance. But of course not addressing these issues are giving the game a bad name.
As for claiming that you can get your donation back if you used paypal... lol. | cheaters are problem, big problem but lets take some situation here on .com
there are many cheaters, and what will happen if admins will punish them, without any update of server with event? there will be a rly bad situation going to ruin the server and the beginning of end, like 1000online ppl and suddenly cheaters will be punished, number will be about 800, as we know update=more new players, more online time old players, more interest from ppl "half online"
i hate cheaters too, but server will die, if we punish them without any events and updates, so im trying to say, if some action will happen, then it must be with update and event, like little idea event called "fantasy world war 1" or smth, name of event is fully elastic

I also agree with dziadu, but I'm not supporting cheaters (I don't have additional characters, only do transfer with my RL colleagues and clan mates, and I'm not tempted to do illegal stuff). Just thing about it, when I first joined this server the number of online players was 400-500 tops, but back then admins were doing their jobs (blocking/fining) my guess is that 30-40% of the online players have 1 additional character, that means double the number of online players because they stay online with the additional characters too.
There wasn't any critical updates (from June 2009 till now) and I also thing that the number of new players is small the only explanation for the 1000+ online players is that many players have additional characters and now because of the lack of law and order they are creating and playing with many accounts simultaneous doing illegal stuff mostly (just take few hours of you life and look at the 1-9 maybe 10 level players, you will see transfers like player1 sent to player2... sent to playerN)
I hope I made myself clear, and note that this is only my opinion, that lack of law and order brings more accounts (more traffic to the site etc.)
I hope for a day when this game will be restricted to 1 account, but it seems that day will never come.

Xata | I would rather have quality over quantity any day.
Getting rid of all the cheats almost certainly would produce a short term reduction in players. This has to be balanced though with:
1) Many honest players are leaving each day because of the situation with cheats going unpunished.
2) Players seeing others cheat and go unpunished may be encouraged to cheat themselves thus making the problem worse
3) Cheats who are banned would not all leave. Many would create a new account and hopefully play honestly this time.
4) Having cheats on the server spoils the game play for everyone else.
Some people have commented that cheating is only a problem with lower level players. This is not true. Having investigated many players for Arctic, (juries have access to some game features not available to other players), there are cheats at the highest levels. This includes amongst others the leader of one of the military clans (and many other MC members). Like everyone else though action is on hold against them at the moment.
When/if clan wars come these clans will have a massive unfair advantage over others.
offtopic: re - the servers future
I very much enjoy this game, agree it is one of the best written and most stable flash games available. I will continue playing as long as it is available and like Limustudotcom would not consider trying to recover the real money I have spent on diamonds as I have received more than my monies worth from the game in the year that I have been playing.
If Ubisoft DO successfully take legal action, their main target must be the .ru server with 16k daily players so either both servers will continue or neither. Another possibility (just my opinion and I have nothing to back this up), is that Ubisoft may licence any copyright features to lordswm which on a positive note could lead to a shared ownership and also possible an investment from them in terms of technical capabilities (updates/features) and people (admins) so there are 4 possible options.
1) Servers continue as they are now.
2) Servers are both closed.
3) Servers continue with blessing and support from Ubisoft.
4) Admins get fed up with .com and abandon project
So all is not doom and gloom and we should try and enjoy the game for as long as we can. | | not borred to write about the same thing all da time? we are all a free people. free to continue play at this server like it is or 2 stop it. | If this game stops, it does so. It is far of beeing the centre of the world (and for those, who's centre it is: you will find another way to serve your addiction, trust me).
I don't believe that this game will be existent anymore in one year. If Ubi launches its browser game, they probably don't want lose more then 10,000 potential players to a clone like this.
My conclusion: Stop saving piles of gold for a uncertain future and stop farming monster mobs for some guild boni I may never have use of. I don't want to stare on a dead site one day and the last battle I fought was a boring swordmen monster. :)
So, who thinks like me: We see us on the battlefield. | Ubisoft is releasing its own online version of HOMM V. It's already out in English and French, as I understand. However, I couldn't sign up for it, so I'm assuming that English =\= American in this case.
I would be greatly saddened were this game to get shut down. | Homm kingdoms server is only open in France. English should open before summer.
The front page is missleading.
I haven't played it, but the screens, players discussions and game descriptions make it look like an Ogame/Travian clone in homm settings. Not much to do with lordswm.
To those who would embrace the help of ubi, take a look at the drm they put on their latest game like "assassin creed 2". Those guys are in the top spots of gaming industry robbery. | You can only play 2 towns free on Ubi's game. They have their 3D+sounds, and we have a huge advantage for being free too -_-
I don't think we will lose by much in any chance, if this server is being taken care of at .ru's level -_- |
