Level 6 if you can afford it. Even if you can't win, you can just lose ambushes. Especially level 6 if you have diamond upgrades.
Level 8-9 if you can't afford it earlier or need a fast return of your investment (TG5). |

Earlier = better. I waited till lv9... but now I think that's too late.
The longer you leave it seems the better ambushes go... higher level players don't AFK so much and play more agreeably. |
I did TGI at level 6 and it is by far the easiest level to ambush at.
The sooner you can do it the better gold and diamonds allowing. |
