Change all data format to standard format yyyy-mm-dd

1|2

AuthorChange all data format to standard format yyyy-mm-dd
Suggestion:
show everywhere data format this way yyyy-mm-dd, which is a standard way in MySQL:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/datetime.html
(moreover, it is a natural way and no confusion here)

Examples of 2010 year 7th month and 4th day:
2010-07-04 (correct)
07-04-10 (incorrect)
04-07 (incorrect)

You all know that Adding E10 enchantment takes 60 hours (= 2 days + 12 hours).
Let's try to check it.

1)
In my transfer log I see this:
07-04-10 11:41: Received item(s): 'Ruby gladius' [70/70]

In my blacksmith I see this:
Processing: Ruby gladius [E10] [70/70]
Completion time: 06-07 23:41

Do you clearly see here that the difference between "06-07 23:41" and "07-04-10 11:41" is 2 days and 12 hours?

2)
Instead, it should be shown this way:
Transfer log:
2010-07-04 11:41: Received item(s): 'Ruby gladius' [70/70]
Completion time (shown in blacksmith):
2010-07-06 23:41

Do you clearly see here that the difference between "2010-07-06 23:41" and "2010-07-04 11:41" is 2 days and 12 hours?

Now you understand what I mean?
-1

In my area, the date is : 07-04-10 .

Will not benefit all, so I say -1.
In my area, the date is : 07-04-10 .

Ok, but in this game you see also the WRONG format for you: 04-07
(whatever your country, both formats 07-04-10 and 04-07 can't be right)

In my country when I go to shop to buy milk (or other product) and believe me, there are even more confusions than here.

For example, THE SAME day (i.e. 2010 year 7th month and 4th day) can be found in these formats:
2010-07-04
07-04-2010
10-07-04
07-04-10
04-07-10
07-04
04-07

And yes, I indeed saw all those formats in the shop (I mean that I saw these formats on various products).

The most annoying are these formats
10-07-04 (1st milk maker)
07-04-10 (2nd milk maker)
04-07-10 (3rd milk maker)
07-04 (4th milk maker)
04-07 (5th milk maker)

I don't remember which formats I've seen on milk, but I'm sure that 4 of those formats were found in the same shop, the same day and all those milks were nearby. It happened this year (i.e. I saw 10) and the day wasn't >12 (like 27th), it was indeed less than 12 and could be confused with month.

Why this game has to make so bad formats too?
Why this game has to make so bad formats too?
Something I've wondered about myself.
I really don't care which format they use as long as it's consistent. As it is, various logs use different data format, and that can be really frustrating.

In short, +1
+1 for consistency.
Ahh, I understand now.
to help with no confusion, ill give +1, which will hopefully help other players more than a remote amount of players like me.

i honestly have had no problems with the dates, but since this affects us all, majority rules.

anyways, I have a handy date at the bottom of my toolbar anyway.
A smart design would let users choose their date format, or rely on locales in browser to display dates accordingly.

And of course date formats should be consistent throughout the game.

+1
+1 for consistency. (yyyy-mm-dd is a personal preference, but any will do as long as it is the same everywhere.)
It makes sense to have a single format everywhere ... I personally like the style proposed by Robai YYYY-MM-DD or the one used in Italy DD-MM-YYYY because it is more understandable going from the highest unit of measures to the lowest (or the other way round).
same with forum bans and chat bans
a forum ban is YY-MM-DD
while a chat ban is MM-DD-YY
To be honest I rather have DD-MM-YYYY, just like the russian server.
But the same order for everything is one step in the good direction
yyyy-mm-dd is a personal preference

What do you mean by "personal"?

1)
Format YYYY-MM-DD is THE STANDARD for date in the whole WEB today:
http://www.w3.org/TR/NOTE-datetime
(by The World Wide Web Consortium!)

2)
Format YYYY-MM-DD is THE STANDARD for date in MySQL today:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/date-and-time-functions.html#function_curdate
or here
http://www.w3schools.com/sql/sql_dates.asp

- most forums uses MySQL databases
- most web pages written in PHP uses MySQL databases too

It means that almost any forum or game BY DEFAULT has the correct date format YYYY-MM-DD.
But using PHP you can change that format into any other you like.
And that is what they (creators of this game) did, which made some confusions:

- Date format in this Forum: 2010-07-06 (complies with standard)
- Date format in Transfer log: 07-06-10
- Date format in Blacksmith: 06-07

For me personally 2010-07-06 is the best, but 06-07-2010 sounds logical too.
for Sven91:
nice example :)
Juts noticed one more date format in this game :)

Go to any forum branch, for example
https://www.lordswm.com/forum_thread.php?id=103
and you will see that the date format there is MM.DD

So, we have 5 different date formats (so far):

- Date format in Forum posts: 2010-07-06 (complies with standard)
- Date format in Forum branch: 07.06
- Date format in Blacksmith: 06-07
- Date format in forum Ban: 10-07-06
- Date format in Transfer log: 07-06-10
its dd/mm/yy in england and rest of europe i think. it's because thats how we say it, 8th of july...
I agree that the date format should be standardized and kept the same throughout the game.

As for what that format is....

Personally I prefer MM-DD-YY or MM-DD-YYYY since that's the standard in the US. And time to be 12:00:00 AM to 11:59:59 PM.
+1
+1

I prefer Month/Day/Year as well.

Sorry, but only the UK/Euro format DDMMYYYY makes any sense to me

ie 21-10-2010 21st October 2010

a big NO to US format, which completely does my head in lol
