AuthorModerators represent the Admins
@ Zenthos

If moderators of the forum are not players then how can the forum be a means of discussing issues that make the game grow? This was clearly stated on the frontpage when I joined...that players affect the growth of the game. How?

If players are not to have a forum to discuss gameplay in detail then that is not possible as chat boxes are inadequate for that purpose, as they are for collating info for beginners or tips etc.

I am confused by this thread. What is it really about?
so moderators I think should be involved with forum of the game. but
not be actual players in the game

Who, provided he would have any brain, would be willing to moderate a forum in an online game they dont know or play for absolutely no money? The system is simple: Every large online game has a forum. Its moderators are mature and dedicated players who volunteer for this.

To show my personal view on this:
I am confused by this thread. What is it really about?

Because seriously, which mod is some pubescent nerd, not able to keep his emotions at bay? Expose him/her and he will be kicked. I wont talk about the fact that most emotionless people suck big time..

But really, this game has other serious problems spoiling its reputation than forum moderating. Or doesnt it? I use forum often and I fail to see any problem with it.
I am confused by this thread. What is it really about?

If I may be so bold as to interpret the TS.
The thread is about the moderators (and in effect, all official clan-members) reflectation of the administration of the game.
It seems to me that the TS has wisely chosen not to target a specific moderator, and instead expressed a concert that "all of them" should have clearer information regarding their duties and behavior directly from the admins.

Another thing I may be bold to try to extract, is that TS seems to make a difference between "internal forums", such as this, and "external forums" such as in many other games I have played over the years. For some reason TS seems to think that external forums aren't moderated by players.

I may be flawed in my interpretation of his words, of course, but that is as I understand them. TS should call out if I am wrong.
Thank you Omega22 and Agelage. A hierarchy and control issue.

For Zenthos

I don't know from where you took 17 when Arctic announced no limit for those clans.

and they go through the usual who "wants to be a millionaire" or "the Family Fued" style show in where they are quizzed on different scenarios and where if the player answers incorrectly they get cut off the show. until only 1 player is left and receives the position of moderator.

That you say... Hmm... Have you for a second gotten out of your frustration of not being in any Military Clan and thought that the new idea of having one moderator from what will represent the power in such a game will actually keep most of the players in line when it si about the forum? No longer a moderator will be called to take part unless it will be like that. No longer a moderator will be asked to answer for his/her action as long as another moderator can clarify the actions. I stand by the best attempt to put an end of these unpleasant and unnecessary discussions.

And, by the way, you can apply as well. Nobody from a MC will take your place. ;)
We have
the new tv show "who wants to be a moderator" starring pang as the host of the show. in which players audition and 17 players are selected for the show. and they go through the usual who "wants to be a millionaire" or "the Family Fued" style show in where they are quizzed on different scenarios and where if the player answers incorrectly they get cut off the show. until only 1 player is left and receives the position of moderator. lol

i know what you try to mention. dont get yourself wrong

1st of all, im not the only mod help Arctic doing the job.

2nd, as far as i recall back, my 'personal quiz show' never apply while filtering candidates.

3rd, none of the new mods got fired for failed my 'personal quiz show'. you could ask those mods who had took my quiz such as Tyrisia. all of them had been told it was part of the training :\

and last, i never make the final decision on the mod candidates; i hadnt been a recruiter of any official clan since long ago.
for Zenthos:
Nice posts 39 and 40 :)
My respect!

In most cases I've seen moderators doing the job this way:
- they randomly select topics and moves them into Off-topic forum
- sometimes without any reason locks the topic
- or delete some post (usually it is the right decision)

Of course, there are some exceptions, like Pantheon (and some others), who did a really Great job by helping others (and I mean ALWAYS, every day, the whole 2 years).

@48

^^ How very rude
Because seriously, which mod is some pubescent nerd, not able to keep his emotions at bay? Expose him/her and he will be kicked. I wont talk about the fact that most emotionless people suck big time..

well a good moderator won't let emotions get in the way. that is also part of the job. thats why they shouldn't choose people with short tempers.
and who are very opinionated.

not that the actual person is emotionless or nerdy. it's just the person doesn't have to feel the need to express any kind of personal emotion when doing their job
.
and after all moderators are staff of this place.kind of compared in a way to
security guards or police. when there is some kind of problem regarding the rules its their job to solve the problem and it shouldn't require emotion for that.

and that's kind of your way of just saying "I'm just doing my job".
Hey, I resent that! I'm emotionless AND nerdy! And I always gets carried away with emotions, thusly deleting all the posts!

But enough about me.
all moderators are staff of this place.kind of compared in a way to
security guards or police.

If a security guard does something excessive (or emotional, emotionless or nerdy), that won't in most cases reflect on his workplace, so they're not really a good comparison.
As for a policeforce, they represent the policeforce itself, not the law they are enforcing or the city it is stationed in, so they're not really a good comparison either.

But... Zenthos, what are you after? It's not that I don't like the debate or anything, I just don't see the point of it. Could you clearify your intentions please?
for Robai:
Thanks for the good feedback. I mostly only just get hate mail. I've only moderated the QH forum for about a year. Time for me to retire and let Agelage take over. :)

About the whole issue on whether mods need to be players as well, I would have to say for QH the mods need to be very familiar with the game. Unlike the other forums where mostly moderating are needed, QH is more about helping players (or at least that's my own personal view point).
