The end of the story is that Syrian did think about blackmailing the empress and for all I know he might have domne that.
I heard from Lognar (Slayer of Noobs) and found out that we had only got half a tale in those letters.
It seemed that the empress had killed the brother of the Empress of the far off land, conspiring with their Empress.
However the truth was that on a secret visit there she fell in love with the brother who became ill. He was so ill that they did consider a mercy killing. Fortunately our Empress saved the day and cured him.
When she decided against marrying him because she wanted to preserve a safe state for us, he became a monk. Most people in his land think him dead but Lognar tracked down the truth.
SO
Now noone can blackmail our Empress with that, and we have all learned something about how dedicated she is to have given up her true love for us.
