jeverag i read that one. from what i read that is kind of based on demon ambushing not so much on elf ambushing

This is because the caravans are made to be difficult. So don't expect to start winning unless you wear full arts.
Difficulty also adjusts higher for higher combat levels. And it adjusts based upon your wins and losses. |
any suggestions on where i should place my troops at the beginning
i usually guard my bowmen with my druids |

Aye, the two links above are good ones. Browsing through all that info should be helpfull, and if you still have Q's about tactics you should use the elven thread. :)
For other questions that might pop up as you start going through caravans, try to use the search-function first, and if that fails feel free to post your query. (Search feature is located at the bottom of the forums first page.)
