Barbs have ridiculously low defense for their units, so more number of their troops should theoretically balance out against the higher defence knight troops (namely, swordsmen).
You might be feeling like this now, but trust me, once you get to around level 10, you'll never complain about knights having low anything. A stack of 70+ guardians is a truly marvelous thing to have on your side :D |

barbs have no option to defend and wait for the attack from opponent, they have to charge up first, otherwise they will be killed like a peace of cake, when in the knight faction if your guards (swards on lower) defend then no one dare to attack them. Just check the defense parameter of all barb and knight troops, then i think you should not have any problem about low on recruit.
