The difference in much more pronounced when you compare full art battles.
Signet Ring of Might -> Dragon's Eye
Warrior Pendant -> Pendant of Wrath
Heavy Mithril Coif -> Obsidian Helmet
Heavy Mithril Boots -> Obsidian Boots
Tower Shield -> Obsidian Shield
All in all by upgrading your arts: +2 def, +2% ini, +2 magic proof and +5% ranged resist.
And did you realise it actually costs less gold per battle? |

There is also a diamond upgrade available for all castles at level 13...it is really an awesome one too. I think I diamond upped a few units at 13...one of the best purchases I have ever made for that level. The best one was the Senior Genies for wizard upgrade as I changed late to wizard (I think late level 11 or late level 12) so it made me very useful in GBs, etc. Those senior genies are just so strong compared to regular genies.
