since we are speculating, i'd just like to say that a volcano eruption is just earth's security valve going off to prevent world explosion;
Although it can't be stopped as it is, it can easily be controlled, further more from magic users that can summon powerful elemental spells to actually break the crust on a side and direct lava toward the sea, where it will slowly cool down, for example, effectively stopping the explosion (no pressure = no explosion).
Beside, since we can see lava already flowing out freely, an explosion is rather improbable - only happens when there is a "clump" blocking gas and/or magma floods.
This just to say that if the plot is for us simply to be scared or blasted off by the volcano, well.. can do better :p
But pheraphs it's just going to open a way to a new world to explore? That would be nice. |

i will change in about 4-6 hours cause yesterday in greece time 6 o clock the volcano came up :) so i think in 4 hours we will have lava in great capital seraph and east bay |
