Author | Would it be counted as a staged combat if playing without upgraded unit |
From Rule:
A staged combat by definition is one where: Any one of the parties or party members intentionally loses to the other for any reason different from having technical problems with access to the game; combats with not full armies (except for cases when falling into thief ambushes),
I'm particularly concerned with the phrase "combats with not full armies".
For ex: what if I'm playing at level 16 with no ironroot treefolk as an elf or with no chargers/paladins as a knight; though I'd have the treefolk/cavalary. Mind you, I'm not concerned with thief ambushes. I'm talking about group battles and events. |
i beleive you will be fine.. i dont remember who but someone on the top players list was playing Quick tournies without upraded tier 5 or 6 creature. |
From what I infer, you shld have required tier for the lvl whether it is upgrade or not is not essential. |
As far I know, There's a group of players who play without upgrade only(even if they have upgrade) in CG.
All participate have taken no upgrade troops.
And it was allow and they even create a clan who would play like this.
So it was allowed and not staged combat ,
but I think as long as all participant are not with upgrade and also they fight for win.
If one team with upgrade and other not, Staged.
If all participant without upgrade but one team have desire for lose, Staged.
If admin or mod think staged, Staged.- :O
Also any combat in tournament are not staged as the fight is random.(May taken action in some exceptional case) |
ElfPride , Are there any situations where we would benefit from the creature more without its upgrade?
Just wondering. |

Upgrade is almost always better.
Bow to Crossbowmen/Wardens is an example of losing some traits to gain others. Where very specific situations could favour bowmen.
Bowmen:
Ini: 9
Abilities: Volley
Crossbow men get 8 ini and lose volley ability. But they gain a lot of other things

It has been up before I cannot remember any clear rule covering this
People do play without upgrades. But imo you should be careful when doing so, random battles should be fine but doing it against same opponent over and over or friends where they have upgrades could be considering staged combat or you aiding others. In general try to do battles where outcome is uncertain in the beginning. |

Not that I could think of. I just asked it because I happened to come across with such a battle. But, no one needs to worry about it, as I have no intention to file a complaint against anyone. I'm just curios and want to be clear about all the rules. That's all.
But yeah, as you asked I pondered about it's benefit. The only benefit I could think of is building anti-fsp, while saving some gold on the upgraded units. It may have other benefits too, but that elude me :) |
a big benefit is better fsp to exp ratio.. im not positive about this, but the few battles i have seen without any upgrades results in high fsp gain for relatively low exp. |

I don't mean to be rude but this is false info.
Perhaps you were looking at players below average FSP, they gain indeed some better fsp - exp ratio.
For the rest of us, it won't matter if you use upgrades or not, the ratio is still the same(except if you haven't got the entire army).
Most certainly you don't get better fsp using no upgrades, if this was true nobody would be buying upgrades anymore.
Back to the question;

It is allowed as I've been doing a lot of QT's and I have seen many players doing this. Also keep in mind that in QT's AI are often not upgraded and in some cases even downgraded(they resemble players). Just watch out with;
But imo you should be careful when doing so, random battles should be fine but doing it against same opponent over and over or friends where they have upgrades could be considering staged combat or you aiding others. |
A staged combat is one in which one player of the contestants have 0 or very low chance to win. Not-upgraded creature is a fairly important factor, but this still doesn't make the combat staged. If you want to be sure, just quit playing with such "weaker" army if you notice you're losing the battle TOO OFTEN because of this. |
It is not a staged combat. However, it is unfair. |
it wont be staged. playing normal versus upgrade doesnt guarantee win, no matter which upgrade it is. |
upgrade units player vs no upgrade units player.... definite loss.
knights vs Tribals or Dark Demon ..... Definite loss for knights
staged combat ? *worried* |
