Better timeout in Tavern game

AuthorBetter timeout in Tavern game
As it is now, the timer in tournaments runs for max 10 minutes and the one with highest tower wins. See for instance this thread:
https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=2366829
This is often exploited and it causes long waiting times for everyone else in the tournament.

My suggestion is that each player should have his own counter. It is active only when he is thinking about his turn. The criteria for win should be different in tournament and normal games.

For tournaments:
I suggest that it should be like in chess. Each player have a total of 5 minutes for all his turns. The player reaching 5 minutes first should lose. That will make the games go faster and still take max 10 minutes.

Normal card games (not tournaments):
Each player have an individual counter. As soon as one player got a counter 5 minutes larger than the other, he loses.

Advantages:
Faster games for everyone. It is sometimes very annoying when playing with very slow players.
this seems to be a good suggestion and would make the game better. if i had one thing to say about this, it's for the normal games. i feel like some players would forcibly play fast so that the others players won't have much time to think or feel pressured but then the 5min between each timer doesn't seem that short either to force a timeout.
I suggest that it should be like in chess.

Stopped reading here.

I've played hundreds if not thousands of tournaments, and tourney games very rarely reach the 10 minutes deadline

It'll only happen often if both of the players are slow, which I found to be unlikely in tourney

So, it seems unnecessary to make things more complex just to deal with an issue that rarely happened

Also, in normal games, I tend to do something else while playing the game for relaxation purposes, this probably applies to many other players out there.
Adding a timer could make it more uncomfortable for the casual players (though I personally find it boring when the games takes too long, which is why I normally only play on Empire Capital)

Some places are also designed to take a very long time (especially the 200 tower win condition), adding the timer would completely change those games and be bad for those who wants long games.

A possible solution is to make an optional mode with timer in it, which could significantly change the tactics in longer game modes
I'm at your point that something has to change about the timeout rule in tournaments, but not everyone hast a fast internet connection and your discriminates people who don't have this.

it could be good on tournament

There are no words to explain how much I hate people who do this. Tavern games are already boring and hard to reacht the +1 luck bonus and you ruin it even more ...

but it should be an option for this in normal games
Yeah option below "one deck/multiple deck" is good too. After all in chess players play with different timers but in a particular tournament a fixed timer is for all.
so it can be applied here :)

Do not understand about slow connection stuff. Would the connection affect game much after the screen is completely loaded? 2-3 second delay/turn but not more than that.

Although it was stb's idea but i think 7 min each for tournament sounds much fair.. :)

slow connection can kill the game. usually it use 3-5 seconds of your timer before you can actually play but with draw combos (using multiples cards with the play again ability in the same turn) and or very slow connection, you may end up having less than 3s to or even worse, you just see one of your card get discarded. also it happened a few time to me due to slow connection, the other player do his turn but the timer isn't reseted for my turn and you have to play with little time left.
For all people here who says +1, I wonder how many of you guys actively plays in tournaments, and found this to be a problem?

Because personally, I found that tourney player tends to be pretty quick compared to normal games, and I very rarely have a game that reach close to 10 minutes.

for Lord Hallion91: Well, if you only wants the +1 luck bonus, just play with a friend, maybe make an agreement to not damage each other's towers so the games will be much quicker.
+1 Sounds good
