11-12-09 05:02: Sold elements: "Windflower"(s) for 9800 gold

In just 3 months, the price of windflower has gone up by over 4,000 gold. Already we are seeing the affect that the coming update has had on the server. This raises the question... Will new players EVER be able to compete on the same level as the more established players?

There are many high level players who have 3+ 4x10 enchanted weapons. This update makes obtaining these enchanted even more expensive as it is, requiring more elements for the actual service. But if the price increases continue, having enchantments equal to the strength of higher level players for new players is nearly impossible.

This wouldn't be too much of a problem as with GB's there can be an AP/ enchant limit, but with war clans coming, the players who don't have powerful enchants will be at a massive disadvantage against those who do, making them less likely to be able to participate. I understand this is a downfall of a free market, but it's just a bit ridiculous.

to be honest I think at the first 1-3 months you ll be right but those enchanted items ll also lose max dur. so they ll be unable to repair sometime and than almost no-one ll have those great items anymore in my opinion
Ever heard of a 90% repair smith? ;)
krowe, think that all those who can enchant at 4x10 are smiths in big guilds. They work for their clan'members, and it is because of this that they had lots of elements and enchantments to do.

They didn't buy all the elements, only, sometime, gave some money back to the owner of both the artefact and the elements, in order to do the enchantment and get the experience.

So, in future, it will still be possible for anybody who wants to get high in level to do so by using the same method (or do like myself and enchant once in a while, hoping to get somewhere before the end of the server ^^' )

Immediate reply: No.

This question has been long debated in many, many online games. There's a benefit in playing first as rules are tweaked and changed.

- If a rule change makes things harder, established players have an advantage. Example: Enchanted weapons, Faction skill points obtained when losing a battle, TGI market, loans with interest once allowed, etc.
- If a rule change makes things easier, all players are on par, so newer players don't benefit from it. Older players may even be the first to react to take advantage of the new situation.

Lords of War and Money is like most games in this regard, even if in certain aspects it's more friendly to newcomers and lower level players. For example, high-level players are limited to PvE fights (hunts, ambushes, etc.) and gain 20% of experience and capped faction skill points, while lower level players may enjoy group battles and earn full rewards in case of victory, and can catch up faster.

But on the precise example of Elements above, clearly, new players have no hope to compete.
Element prices have risen over the past few months, but it is with the recent news, and speculation, that enchants will require more elements that is the main reason in the big jump in prices of the last couple weeks. Everyone is rushing to get the enchants down before any changes, so demand has had a large increase.

After the change, if it is similar to .ru as people think, then demand will drop dramaticly and prices may even fall lower than a few months ago. Many people will hold off on enchants because of increased element need.

Only time will tell what the real effect will be on the market. But You can only repair an item so many times, so eventually people will need new enchants.

As far as new players competing with old players, how often does that really happen?
it may be a bit off-topic but the new rules have a nice effect for newer players, namely for not-so-experienced enchanters:

with enchantments getting so expensive, fewer people can afford 4x10% enchants - thus the mid level enchanters get more costumers. so in a way this upgrade is made to help mid and low level players.

but for battles it will be hard to compete...
Will new players EVER be able to compete on the same level as the more established players?

If this server will ever get more players, prices of elements will be lowered. But number of players should raise a lot in limited time.

For example, after nearest update game will get some advertising and we will have not ~1000 players online, but ~2000 players... Hope its not only a dream :D
Advertising isnt the problem.
Try to to attract more people and see for yourself.
At the moment I have 46 referrals (except the two that joined in November) NONE of them logged in in November.
4 of them reached combat level 4
4 of them reached combat level 3
3 of them reached combat level 2
35 stayed at combat level 1

So what will happen if we advertise more?
We get thousands of accounts that are stuck on level 1-2 or maybe 3.
Thats not gonna make a difference at all for the price of elements, since the players before level 5 wont buy / sell any element at all!
Will new players EVER be able to compete on the same level as the more established players?

The short answer, No

But this is irrelevant, new players are low level and established players are high level. Lets just take the most extreme case. A new player levels up quick and reaches level 5 in a few months. He then through some encounter, group battle or war or whatever, encounters an established player that has enchants. What level is this established player? If he has one or more 4x10% enchant I would say more than likely level 7 or higher (and really, how many players level 9 or less have even one 4x10% enchant). In this case the level 7 is already much more powerful than the level 5.

New players compete with new, or low level players. Established players compete against other established, or high level players. So the gap problem will exist more between those near the same level that got enchants before the change, and those that didnt. However, new artifacts are said to be coming as well, I suspect these will cover that gap somewhat.
Here's a good perspective to the new or lower level players:

1.) Because of the higher element prices they can sell their elements for more gold.
2.) Lower level players have lower MG and thus can get more elements than high level players who already have high MG.
3.) Element prices fluctuate and may come down in the future.
thats why i said ~2000 online - it means not for one time or two, but constantly.

i ve got 3 referrals:
level 11 (much gold to me :P)
level 5
level 2
i ve got 3 referrals:
Well, I made two youtube videos and put my referral link in the description.
Thats the only way I received referrals. So BEFORE they register, they have seen some gameplay, so I think it is VERY weird that ~75% doenst reach level 2...
yes, its weird...
I like that the price of elements went up cause then I can get more gold for them hen I sell them

i am talking abou Maximum dur. not the dur the item has curretly
after repairing an item loses 1 max dur.
0/70 <=2nd number
so I think it is VERY weird that ~75% doenst reach level 2...

This game is somewhat like a chess game. It's a little bit boring but good for those who enjoy thinking. Well, I think it could still be some more attracting by some more involvements, simply such as some seasonal events (not this kind of once per year events). For the four weeks of each month, there could be 4 types of events in rotation, each of them lasts 1-2 days. Then for the other days in the week, players could do the casual fights. In this way, it may look more interesting for newcomers.

For the online number ~1000, I guess 50% of them are alternatives, if you put an eye on the enrollment, you could find too many enrolling with one fight in several months.
The thing is, while people are locking in their 4 x10% enchantment now, the update (when it comes) is likely to have new items. The established players who have spent all their elements on enchanting, will now have to choose between their really enchanted item, or an item with slightly higher initial characteristics.
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
