What exactly is the table in https://www.lordswm.com/help.php?section=38 supposed to mean?

According to that, a necro with fsl 4 should be able to recruit a max of 40 skellys, yet https://www.lordswm.com/pl_info.php?id=4649033 has near double that... And all go to battle https://www.lordswm.com/warlog.php?warid=498815076.... Mind boggling

Not max, but additional.
no, at fls 4, necros can recruit an EXTRA 40 sceletons. in your case, that person traded their zombies(or whatever) for sceletons, and then got a EXTRA 40 sceletons(cause of fls 4)
Extra? Oh man now that's just making fun of the knight's racial ability... a necro going from 4 to 5 gets +25 skelly bowmen, and a knight gets +1 bow and +2 swords (and -1 recruit)... yay. Please tell me there's some secret, BETTER ability that knights have.. somewhere along the line?
Knights are quite strong...look at some of Antos battles in CG. A necro has a lot of "units" because they need them. They are a mostly low ini race...and they don't have morale.

A knight can burst, inspire troops, escort, etc. Lot of neat talents.

Not talking about at high levels, I'm talking about low ones, where talents barely make a diff, and what do you mean by burst? morale? and the low initiative part again is a joke at this level, (considering zombies are not used)

How about you first learn to distinguish combat level from faction level? Maybe things will make more sense then.

necro got only skellies - lvl1 unit with the lowest damage ant hit point skill, although knights are able to recruit not only farmers, but other units as well, including monks, which are very strong

Mostly I'm talking about this level, without monks, and it'll take a lot of convincing to tell me that 25 skelly bows are worse than 1 bow and 2 swords...
My apologies, I thought you were referring to a knight leveling up from 4 to 5.

Necros have a better racial skill at that level because they need it.

4) His teammate said that a necro at this level could have 120 skeelys with negligible difference in vamps and ghosts (in battle log) - 120 skeelys would have almost definetely owned us...
120 skellies cannot own the knight swordsmen stack...and since I did not play as a knight at that low level I cannot comment from personal experience, but I did play as a Necro and I can tell you that Necros are not "unbeatable" or even the best at that level (assuming all things are equal).

As for "bursting" that is what non-raised or undead units can do...the probability of which depends on the base Morale of the unit. A necro has no such living units so whatever moves it makes there is no chance for a "miracle" to happen for them allowing their units to move ahead of others on the ini-bar through such an event.

This would allow a swords stack hit a vamp, stun it, and then burst...allowing it to hit the vamps a 2nd or 3rd time depending on how many times this was repeated. A knight's stun ability really is amazing...it can turn a battle entirely with just one trigger of it.
Agreed, most ranged cannot own swords.., but they would own my bows and griffs in the blink of an eye with high initiative... idk
@15 which is why you have swords. the griffs and bows do some damage but for the most part your power comes from swords. griffs are to pin down the enemy fast so swords can reach them. bows are for long range damage and being the focus of the enemy for a while. swords are very effective and generally people try and leave them for last because they take a lot to be taken down.

skellys however drop like flys and they need lots of them for that reason and have 1 attack, pretty sure. bowmen have more health and 6 attack, pretty sure. going off a purely offensive look it would take 6 skellys to match 1 bowmen for attack.
The game is balanced, any doubt go to knight forum and ask the best strategy to win.
