There is, and never was, any talk about kidnapping, capturing, etc...
Feurlis is undead, so he can not be possessed. So this ruled out as well.
I recall Feurlis has always been a bit overzealous with protection. Remember his spats with Kalirosh in the old Realm, about the Homeland Security's official being too laid back with what Feurlis thought to be a menace. Since nobody else takes the spying seriously, I believe it is just Feurlis being... Feurlis.
However, in the past when he was exacting Kalirosh to be more proactive, Feurlis was always right, and what his guts perceived as danger, turned out to be exactly that... |

Fate Spinner (Upgrade: Fate Weaver)
The Fate Spinner is an avatar of the Spider Goddess, a truly divine reflection of the Death aspect of Asha. She has left the goddess's side to materialize on the surface of Ashan. The Fate Spinner will often be present at the founding of a Necropolis, fortifying the foundations and encouraging its growth. Like the queen of a hive they nurtures the growth of a necropolis; under her protection the undead comb the region for lost souls which they then recruit to swell their ranks. | So in general the spider reference is to maybe the Mastermind!? The word 'again' is there for some reason,if it isn't about kidnapping,then it sure as hell may refer to the mastermind or some evil thing from our past. |
From my point of view the story has 3 key points:
1. The title "The Spider weaves again" meaning that some thing/someone is preparing a "spider net to catch a pray" => Something bad may happen
2. Our councilors are talking about a great discovery made when traveling in the past
=> Something good may happen (or at least they think is something good)
3. The new Empire has spies among the old Empire Councilors => The new Empire doesn't trust us and/or our councilors don't give feedback to the new Empire forcing them to spy on us. |

| Actually since the councilors have the notebook, they can see who is the councilor that's not being spied on. And that's our mole. |

I would rather say that the spider itself is an old "friend" of ours and it again is plotting something (not necessarily something that happened once before.

I don't think so. The spy was acting like a valet. So he is at the mansion and can spy ONLY what goes around the mansion (who comes in, who goes out and so on).
It doesn't state that only Kh'Everst and Bilir are staying at the mansion. Maybe all councilors leaves there ;) |

Perhaps, it is a nobility war? Players versus the councilors, there are more of us but they are stronger, so 3 players versus 1 AI but the AI has a much bigger army/is much stronger? |

Just an idea: How about one of councilors riots against the New Empire and uses new units (altgrade) discovered during time travels, as his summoned ally?
Lords would serve new Empire to quell rebellion.
It would make both for an event and introduction of altgrade. |

i'm leaning more towards Feurlis but this just maybe a way to confuse us by Arctic ;).
IMO,the councilors come to know that someone in the court distrusts them and so they defend themsleves.Sorish helps them by giving alt grade as allies from past. |
