It would appear that a clans page is not the place to ask their recruiters to stop repeatedly sending invitations to my in-box.
It would also seem that having I DO NOT WANT TO JOIN ANY OTHER CLANS - PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME MAILS ASKING TO JOIN YOUR CLAN ! = INSTANT BLOCK! at the top of my profile is no deterrant to those recruiters.
I contacted the leader of the clan involved who gave me a list of recruiters to block but am also aware that this list is subject to frequent change and new recruiters etc so I would like to respectfully and politely ask here for them NOT to contact me.
I would be interested to know if it is just me or if others are similarly annoyed by this "new" drive by a small number of clans to try and get new members any way they can? |
| It's not really new, ive been getting private mails for ages asking me to join clans, no doubt they are sent to everybody (on the battle list or something similair with everyone's name on it) |
Up until now people have respected my post at the top of my profile.
It seems we have a new breed of recruiters though. |

I dont mail people asking them to join my clan.
Yes I am a recruiter but League of Shadows dont need to chase people asking them to join. It is in my profile and the clan page so THEY CAN CONTACT ME if they are interested.
We dont just ask everyone to join, in fact we have capped our clan at a maximum of 150 members and do extensive vetting before we send people invitations and only except the very best players who fully follow all the game rules.
If I did just randomly mail people who I did not know then I would expect them to be annoyed too and look on my clan un-favourably. |
Yes methods might be different but goal is same.Los has a very high reputation among all other clans,and if there are no recruiter even then people will join it by writing pm to the leader.But what about new leaders(even high levels) who just bought a clan or got a clan, how will he make an approach to other high level players.Then at the beginning he will be a recruiter too to arrange others to be his recruiters.Your I DO NOT WANT TO JOIN ANY OTHER CLANS - PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME MAILS ASKING TO JOIN YOUR CLAN ! = INSTANT BLOCK! will crush all new leaders hope and will in a moment.If you are not interested to join clans then just politely refuse them.what I did many times.No need to make a thread about this little issues:)

That reminds me of a story in a hotel somewhere in this world (I don't give names to not offend). In every hotel you will find hanging on the internal part of the door a little note which says "Do no disturb". Once you set that on the external part of the door, it means that you ask politely everyone not to knock on your door. Well, one morning, in that hotel I wanted to sleep longer, so, I hanged the sign on the external part of the door. The maid didn't even care about the sign and she opened the door as it was her house. Do you think I said at least "thank you" to that maid?
Do you think you will get any new recruit by intruding? If there are players who don't know if they would join a clan or no, then those players won't post anything in their personal info for the recruiters. Vice-versa, if one is happy with the clan where he/she is and he/she posts that in his/her personal info, spaming will do nothing but bringing even distaste for that clan.
It's a matter of respect here. Are you willing to put your clan in a bad light just because you need more members? |
I will say this...I don't mind personable, mindful, and HONEST invitations to join a clan.
However, cookie-cutter-cut-and-paste-catch-all-be-all type of messages get under my skin too.
I have joined a few clans besides LoS simply because someone didn't insult me with such a poor cut+paste invitation--a guy that doesn't even know me, has never played with me, or ever spoken a single word to me no less!
I share your pain, brother, but sooner than later I'll have all of those spammers blocked from my PM. Since we take recruiting very seriously in our #153 clan I think we may be a bit biased on this one, mate, by imposing our personal standards on the rest of the server.
My advice to all clans that "reward" or "push" their recruiters to invite "everyone and anyone," is to get a little self respect, and make your clan something to be proud of--not laughed at, or worse, blocked by other reputable characters/clans.
CGSMCMLXXV said it quite well, avoid "bringing [others] distaste for [your] clan" through your recruitment methods.

I admit recruiters should read your character page. They have to anyway - for example, to check if you are a main or a secondary character.
I receive invitation to other clans about twice a week. Sometimes I reply "no", sometimes I don't answer the message.
I can live with this. You seem a bit touchy on the subject. |

| I just turn them down politely. It works :) POLITELY, like saying "Sorry, i am not very interested" and you can copy and paste that from somewhere to maek yourself feel better :) |
I have the same problem to.
I'm sure you are all capable of reading my profile so just don't do it.
Perhaps I need to position it for you in a more noticeable place, In CAPS.
Whenever I receive a request to join a clan, I write to the clan leader and express my disgust at this person who obviously can't read. A couple of recruiters have lost their positions because of me :) |

Some of you seem very thin-skinned regarding unsolicited messages, that's all. I'm almost sure I receive more than you. And I really doubt it reaches unbearable levels. Really, really doubt it. |

I am also a recruiter of LoS and i admit i send also pm to players sometimes, if i found a capable player!
But: if i meet someone helping me in hunt, and ask him if i would not bother her/him with a pm obout our clan. Futhermore i always check his profile, and if it posted there "I DON'T WANT TO JOIN ANY CLANS" i don't pm him/her.
So there is a noble way of recruiting, which is not followed by new recruiters.
However i am sure we can live with this, just i also hate inpersonal, copypasted invitations too! |
| just block the senders .. :) I did too .. someone (I cannot say the name) sent me the same invits 20 times in 20 days, I had told "NO!" ... but he did not care, then I did not care about the block too .. :) |
| just ignore them thats what i do.besides the only person that benefits from you joining a clan is the leader of that clan,he gets to pocket the sign up fee and as for everything else,the joining player gets nothing worthwhile |
