The Numbers Game

1|2|3|4|5|6

AuthorThe Numbers Game
Hiya all,

I'm writing this in reference to the average numbers online in LWM.

Hopefully, we can contribute some ideas that Arctic/admins can use to increase the numbers. As they say, many brains make light work. :)

We all know this is a great game, and if a 'domestic' version can attract 10-20k average daily, it really can't be hard for us to get 3-4k to start with, right?

It's not like we are not getting new blood. 1 look at the Duel/GB page will show we have quite a lot of CL 1-3s almost anytime of the day. It was like this when I joined, and it's like this now.

Imho, 1 of the main reason for the non-/slow growth seems to be that the number of characters getting blocked seems to negate new players joining us. A quick look at the C&A section and you'll know what I mean. I believe in the past month alone, 100s of active playing players/characters have been blocked.

Don't get me wrong. If a player breaks the rules, they should be blocked, and rightfully so.

But from what I see, roughly about 50% of those who got blocked breaking the rules are ignorant of them, and chances are high that if they had known that say, illegal transfers are illegal and liable to get their characters blocked, they might not have broken them in the first place.

Most of us probably know of players who did illegal transfers etc, found out later that it was illegal, repented, and are now active members of the game.

So maybe we should find and introduce ways to 'educate' newcomers about the more 'important' rule of the game that can get their characters blocked?

I'm sure all of us want to see our numbers grow and see a active and vibrate community every time we log in. Wouldn't it be great if we can log in and see something like 11:11, 3456 online? I'm sure we all do. :)

So let's come forward with some comments, ideas, suggestions that can realize this 'dream'. maybe some might interest Arctic, and he can implement it/bring it forward to the developers, and get them implemented.

If our numbers grow, it can only benefit all of us - players, admins, game developers alike.
well, we had a chance - the 4th annual mashable award. But unfortunately, we didn't make it to the finals :(
we could all help the game, just some cooperate with admins and now what i mean:
as in other games there are players from all over the world, so we can make other languages in-game

how to do it?
there are always ppl that want to help game administrators, there could be new guild language translators or something like that
the problem is how we can do it, but its isnt the hardest thing

surely it would help, it would be quite fast work, and it would grow our players community for sure, more google chances and more ppl who dont know english

i know we can do it, but we need good administration help
administration help and tools, mailing isnt bad too

start page then would get language choose
in my opinion one of the many reasons of us having a low number of players is that alot of people are joining but no one is having a will to progress any further on,
even early from the first level people see hard and medium hunts that they can barely be won by players who don`t know how to play correctly,or the lack of `sparkly` to get their attention, even that guy from the help box doesn`t add much things to draw their attention
something like -not lying-but more of making the statement less true, such as messages from the admins on congratulation the players on leveling up,adding smiley faces to it,saying like with hard work you can make a fortune,or anything like that, everyone has thought of this in one way or another
so if someone can take a psychology lessons and learn about how to make the best things that attracts people would be nice,

and please stop blocking every player and other, true it is better to have admins that we fear and count on but it would be even better to have ones that can add emoticons into the forum, you can add the illegal transfers rules into the"did you know that" thing in the main page,it what even made me start rouletting in the first place so it should have a great effect on leading into good things in the first place

so in a few words, making the game more simple for the hard to learn people will help alot of people,as i said before,

didn`t check the spelling,but you`ll get the idea,and soon we`ll have 3456 online :D
well actually this game is really awesome and i love it but it really needs a lot of time for a player to grow and batlles are also some times too long
like a group battle takes a minimum 30-45 minutes

for players who have devotion for this game really like dat but newcomer some times get bored and they leave the game

so the game should introduce something which help them grow as well as it takes less time
like hunter's guild there should be more guilds which make game more intresting

FOR EXAMPLE they can make a survival guild or something like that istead of having survival tournaments

MY MAIN POINT IS TO SHOW THE NEW COMERS HOW EXCITING AND INTRESTING THE GAME REALLY IS
A (I think) simple and yet effective way to educate players about certain more 'important' rule about the game would be to add a 'welcome' screen every time a Cl 2 player logs in. It's similar to the type we get when we logged in during the Undead event, Reinventing the inventory etc.

This way, newcomers are 'forced' to read the more important rules of the game, like illegal transfers will get their character blocked etc. I suggest CL 2 coz we can then filter out people who just joined to check out the game, but don't log in again after the first time.

In most communities, law enforcement adopt a 'prevention is better than cure' policy to deter/discourage would-be offenders. We should do like-wise if we want to see a constant growth in our server.
Also, I think that during registration, any nicks that are against the rules should not be accepted, and the registrant have to choose a new name.

I read recently that a character was blocked coz his name "represent a gibberish combination".

He had enrolled 260 times, meaning he had logged in and played the game for 260 hours before getting blocked.

While I agree that names should be within certain rules, how is someone who has never played the game, be expected to know that this game don't allowed a nick like for example, 'abcdefg'?

It's not like someone did something really 'bad' like illegal transfer, spreading phishing sites, scamming etc. And since we can't change our nick after we register, to get a character blocked for something he did DURING the registration process seems kinda harsh, don't you think?

The system should just reject the name application in the first place, imho.

Oh, this is pretty easy =)

I have read and agree to the terms and rules of the game: Rules
Yes (mandatory)

But I think this topic is important. Please carry on with this discussion, thanks.

was thinking about that same problem.. i can't speak for everyone, ofcourse, but i usually check out a game by fuzzing around first, with the idea that if it's not allowed, it's not possible by design. in this game, though, you can do stuff that's not allowed, so the rules should indeed be made more clear to new (and not so new, i'm affraid) players. (or perhaps more "accessable", as in: the most important parts in a tl;dr version)

so a big + to post 7, good idea!
information about the rules could also be added to the "did you know"-box..
for Arctic:
I have read and agree to the terms and rules of the game: Rules
Yes (mandatory)
is not a guarantee that people actually read it, it's more like an assurance that in case of a dispute, the Empire is right ("you could have known, because you checked that box")

It's like "reading" an EULA when you install new software... how many people actually take the time to read everything (especially if there's so much fun behind that "I agree" button)?

Please don't get me wrong, by the way.. I'm not defending skipping these important texts, just trying to understand the way it works for most people..

I have read and agree to the terms and rules of the game: Rules
Yes (mandatory)

This is true but I think few people will really go read the rules before they register.

So I think maybe we can put some important rules which makes people get blocked like multi-char rules, transfer rules etc. in the welcome tutorial, and introduce them to the new players after they reach level 3 so this way more people will read it and knows how important it is.

apologies for post 13, connection-accident..
can a mod please delete that post? thank you in advance
I'm not complaining about anything since I love this game. However I think if we want to increase the population of this game, we have to make it "attractive".

However it looks to me that this game requires a lot of patience and skill, and not that much "fun" compared with many other games. Most players that I know quit this game after they reach level 5 or level 7 because they dont like the slow paces to level up and they dont see anything new and "fun".

Well actually this is true: when there is no event, all you can do for this game is HG, MG, TG and PVP (which is expensive after CL 5 and almost not possible to for a GB for players > CL 12). For new players, it is almost impossible to join TG without paying 80 euro---dont expect them to pay it, very few will pay! That means you'll have to do the same thing over and over for months and yrs...Yes survival tournament is fun and good for leveling up, but many people just dont like it, we need to have more variants...

I think for .ru the reason why they have such large population is because they have a lot of wars and events, makes this game very attractive, and new players can level up very easily without getting bored, (look at that demon invasion from .ru last month, people get to dwarf fsp level 7 within 2 weeks without trouble). This large population also brings more chance to find an opponent to do PVP, which increase the fun...

That requires time and care from the admin/Arctic, and I think we cant let Arctic himself do all of these because it's way too much work for him... But if the admins do not do any change to this server, there is no way to increase the population of this game by just doing more advertising.
Well, imho such trivial rules should not be that harshly punished. So what if someone is called "asdgwashahe", it's not like he is offending anyone or anything like that. Anyway, that is the least of our problems as I believe such cases are rare.

A first step for advancement I think could be more advertising. Even a proper facebook group or other such free gestures could attract a good amount of players to join the game. As for keeping them... this game as great as it is, it has a major problem: it is very time consuming. In order to advance one needs to dedicate many hours-days-months even. In order to keep the interest alive there should be more events of variable scale to give players something imminent to look forward to while slowly pacing towards the next combat level.

Ahh.. thanks for reminding me. It's been almost 2 years since I have seen that screen. haha.. :)

Anyway, tbh, I didn't click and read the rules during registration. Was too excited to dive right in and play the game. I only read it when I was like CL 3 or something. :)
for Liuker:
u r absolutley right frnd nd i feel the same way too
To increase the numbers, it will be good to take a look at post 17 on the following thread:

https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1893932

Look at it not from a face value perspective, but from a much more strategic manner such as identifying the underlying reasons which led to the occurrence of such issues and we have part of the puzzle solved.

Another thing to ponder over would be the phrase "Be proactive, not reactive"

Please pardon me for sounding so cryptic. Just in that mood. :)
agreeing with 15 and 16. Until cl 5 the game is pretty rewarding, you lvl up fast, hg, fsp and lg numbers are always on the horizon, the recruitment of new creatures and pvp on these lvls is readily available, these things lure you to play on.

but after that the numbers become daunting, everything takes weeks to accomplish, an basiclly consists of grinding hunts and mg quest( TG could be a huge funfactor for lvls 6+ but just to expensive now) more (small and maybe lvl specific events) would make for a more rewarding experience.

But we can't expect artic to do this all by himself, he's got a RL too, I reckon we need 2 or 3 more Artics:D, perhaps he can take a couple of traineeships to take the weight off his shoulders and make this server not dependent of one man
