I'd "Rework" the event.
I'd give 20-30 Units to choose from, and allow players to make a Build around that.
There would be no real "Disadvantage" between players. |

Yep, even with out a good army you get back your money and a few CG+LG points, so it worth those 500g every time. |

I don't think of my armies if that what's you mean, I just take whatever set them however once and forget about it till I see my combat log.
I haven't loss that 500g so far. :D |

| Set my troops just so for tournament. Now I'm in top 16 lol. Its worth playing them even if you get 1 win,500 gold isn't that much. |
Unfortunately, you were out in round one. Gather a better army and try again in the next tournament.

The idea of collectibles may be.
Pokemon is a prime example of people displaying a love to collect stuff. Be that in the form of in-game pokemons or off-line cards. And they're willing to pay real money to do so at times.
And people like it even more when their collectibles are *shiny* or as in this game, rare/epic etc. |
