Author | For all you would-be thief ambush "victims"... |
Please remember that whoever ambushed you does not have anything against you. They are only trying to return their TGI time.
Going AFK is one thing. I can totally understand that. But afking for 4 turns and move on your every 5th turn, is just plain annoying like this guy, Dzepbar in this battle.

You have nothing to gain by behaving like this guy. Playing speedily when you have nothing to lose, helps both you and the thief. I hope whoever reads this will have a different mindset when facing a thief in a battle.
Thank you for reading. | luckily, u didnt find a necro who bring ghost only, and divide it into 8 stacks, keep fleeing and raising them from time to time
then, after that afking for 4 turns and move on your every 5th turn
lol | 2
8 stacks isn't possible but 7 isn't much better lol | ah, 7 , my mistake | Just be happy that it wastes their time just as much as it wastes theirs :D | wastes their time just as much as yours* | lol, walk away for 4 turns. everybody losses, exept the theif i guess who gets a free point ^^ | yeah i just can't understand guys who think that they annoy us but they don't think that they also wastes their time | What to do?? I think is bad luck if meet ppl like this... | If I meet a thief, and I win, I gain a lot of XP, which I don't want right now. I, like most Wizards, need money- getting up another level faster without money just hurts me. So this is as lose-lose as they come for me.
Yes, I'm fully aware that the thieves who sit on the high-traffic routes don't have anything against me personally, they just want another point. It seems like such a wonderful excuse for criminals. "Gee, judge, I didn't have anything personal against the woman I raped. I just wanted to score another point!" And putting them in prison, what's the point of that? It just costs the state a lot of money and requires jail guards to spend a lot of time as well.
Yeah, I have something to gain by playing like that guy. If we all make thieves take 2 hours to fight, that means 1/8 the chance of being hit by thieves. And maybe that'll mean some people will stop being criminals, or at least stop raiding the high traffic areas.
Heck, the guy who did this is a hero to me. He saved me, and several other people, from being stolen from. I'll send him some money now, and if he ever wants to start an anti-thief clan I'm all for it. Maybe we can think of some strategies to turn it into four hours a fight.
The fact that the developers of the game felt that thieves should not be punished when caught says a lot about the developers. The fact that you're whining that people won't sit back and make it as easy as possible for you to steal from them says a lot about you. | Urgone, I too used to be frustrated about the whole theieving thing, indeed I still am. You could always try talking afterwards, most thieves don't play for the gold so you will often get it back if you ask nicely.
Dragging a game out will definitely not turn people away from theiving; it costs a lot of money to hire a TGI and you only have it for a certain time, so the only thiing that will stop people thieving will be if they have to leave the game for another reason.
Bear in mind that if you resort to your '4 hour game' delaying tactic, you will only be slowing your own progress and stopping yourself from reaching your goals. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. | 10.
OMG, Urgone, are you crazy? Completely out of mind? Little bit paranoic? Or simple a bad-knower of this game?
According to my last supposition, i will explain you the thieving career. Every carovan you met is a real danger. Sometimes they are impossible. Would you like to face a dark elves carovan with 30 hydras and spell power 16? Come on, if you think that thieving it's so easy... The reward? 1 racial points, 1k of exp, and 100 gold. Wow. Also, you will need the best of arts to do every carovans... which means an incredible amount of money needed.
If you are so smart and strong t reach a new level, well, you can get a real reward, in the form of 1 thief artifact... and, at level 2 and 4, a thief invitation. But the risks are so much that it's completely out of question to talk about easy thieving, and people who like to be a thief because they are thieves in real life, like your post suggests in the end. THIS explain a lot of things about you. | I've encountered numerous people doing this (or waiting as much as possible and clicking "wait" 10seconds before the time is about to expire), then moving a stack from time to time to avoid loosing the battle.
It's horrible, you have an ambush that takes 20 minutes (or more)...
You have the people that travels completely afk, and once again you're stitting waiting for your turn for so many time....and in the end, you gain 0.2 SP and something like 300xp that makes me crazy spacialy when it occurs many times a day...
While some others understand the thing: if they play the ambush, they will gain good experiance, and some sillpoint (count around 1000xp and 0.5sp if you loose the battle as thiefs are often carrying full arts) | I didn't say thieving was easy. I said people weren't punished if they were caught thieving, and that this thread is just a general whine about how we aren't making it easy on thieves to steal from us. I don't really care that it's a hard life for a pimp out there. You're still a pimp.
Merlin, you may be right. On the other hand, somebody who's considering spending a ridiculous amount of money on a TGI may reconsider if they realize that they can't pay it back on time thanks to people taking a long time to fight. At least, that's what I hope for. At any rate, the choice on when to use the 4 hour tactic (not that I've found one yet) is up to me. I get to choose when and where I do it. So it doesn't cost me as much as you think. For the thief who can't repay his TGI in time? Costs them quite a bit.
Remember when this game was called HEROES of M&M? What's heroic about ambushing your fellow players, and wasting their time when they just want to be left alone? When we were having the mercury crisis, people would go out of their way to go to Blooming Glade to help manufacture mercury. Guess what they'd get as their reward? Thieves who wasted their time and stole from them. That really helped us get out of the crisis.
Let me make this clear- I'm not asking for a rule change. I'm not sending thieves threatening emails or trying to hack their accounts. I am trying, within the rules, to make thieving as unappetizing as possible. The developers, in their wisdom, made taking a long time the only real option to do so. Sacrificing your time to save others from being stolen from may not seem that Heroic, but frankly it's the only Heroic option left to us. | It's not heroic at all, it is spiteful to the point of being childish and I guarantee will not deter thieves, who will still get their rewards in any case. If you really want to jack a thieve off, have only 1 unit in your army, so they waste their arts for tiny amounts of Xp and Sp. | Sacrificing your time to save others from being stolen from may not seem that Heroic, but frankly it's the only Heroic option left to us
^^ It's a choice, like being a thief too. Whether it's only one or ten options, heroic or not, is depend on each perspective.
>>> At least developer already successful to bring real emotions with thief things :D | 14.
Urgone, have you ever try to ask back your golds? Maybe not. If are going to do his, you will find that the great part of the thieves will give you back what you have lost. So, what was the reward of the crisis? Free xp points and racial poins. Yuo don't want it? travel with only one stack of your most stupid troops, and you will make the thing easier for you and your opponent. | 14. urgone = So your main objective is to make players miserable, because you forgot how to play this game just for fun. After frustration of PvP battles you decided to do only hunts and merc quests? For what? To be stronger? Great wizard with strong artefacts? Why? To hunt and make the thief ambushes long? You are a real hero. Afraid to have fun.
And I dont think that administration will allow a clan which objective is to make thiefs miserable the most childish and stupid way imaginable. Just imagine the clan: We are here to make people bored, because we are so afraid to play PvP battles that we need to encourage the thiefs to leave the game because we are really boring undeveloped noobs.
PS: Personal opinion: I am not thief and when I dont want to be ambushed, I just travel with 1 unit. Its simple and doesnt offend anyone. | I'm not frustrated by PVP battles- you can go way back to my last PVP battles and see how many I lost. It's just inherent in Wizards- you can't afford to do PVP every level. I'll start back up when I'm 8th.
It's not the money I'm worried about. Just time. If you feel that this is the most childish and stupid way imaginable, by all means tell me a less childish and stupid way to do so. doing what you suggested just makes thieves' lives easier, as they can immediately set upon some other innocent victim.
Let me make this clear, for the especially obtuse. I don't consider being stolen from to be fun. I know very few people who do so. And I'm certainly not going to make their lives as easy as possible because I don't find it fun. If you don't find it fun to steal from me, then don't steal from me. I don't use the Misty Coast-Rocky Ridge Route, go steal from there.
What this thread comes down to is a bunch of whiners complaining that just because they're doing something to somebody else which they know isn't any fun for the victim, that's no excuse for the victim to keep them from having fun. Well, I heard you. I just don't agree.
And speaking of wasting time...I'll see you on another thread. | I say show some spirit and fight the thieves back? Seriously, why not make their ambushes exciting while they are at it? |
