Anyway most of the time we can caravans.

It doesn't matter what area you choose - chance to get a player ambushed is always the same. Ambushes in unpopular areas just mean that you have to wait longer for the player to pass (and ambush to trigger) and you have a smaller chance to meet 2 players at once.
or me, when I become a Thieve, I WILL NEVER ambush my friend, or I WILL QUIT THIS GAME FOREVER ..
since You can't choose who to ambush, will you QUIT THIS GAME FOREVER or don't want to be a thief? :P

Am I subverting the game? If so, then I'm sure the admins will let me know. Personally, I think that's ridiculous. Thieves have been around forever. People who take an hour to show their displeasure with thieves have been around forever. I've never met Kiz, who originated this thread. And I doubt that we're the only server that's thought of this.

Have you ever considered that I might be right? That the admins set it up this way on purpose so that victims would have negotiating power, and that they approve of what I'm doing?

And suppose I won? Suppose we negotiated that all of the quickest routes to the Great Capital would be kept clear, and in return there would be some route where people who *wanted* to be ambushed would go, such as Misty-Rocky. After all, the problem with thieving is that it's inconvenient: when you're trying to get mercury, or trying to get back with new equipment to finish an army mission. If there was a specific route known as "thieves Route" where I was likely to get ambushed, would I go there on purpose sometimes? I probably would, and so would others.

Who loses here, exactly? The victims? The thieves? The game? What is so horrible about the proposed solution?
i don't see the huge deal about being attacked in an ambush, travel with 1 unit and no arts. if you do this you lose about 1 min of your life and nothing else.

i go around LOOKING for ambushes. and when i win (over 80% of the time) i get huge exp and SP.

and even then, my troops are ready to g after wards
Dude your only point is that it is inconvenient to be ambushed, yet your solution is to waste even more of your time thus dragging out the inconvenience. Sounds like you have a winning solution there, All the best with that.

urgone, you are subverting the game. Your tactic of the waiting game is a loophole. Neutral creatures get increased speed and 5 afk waits leads to fleeing for a reason. There are there to prevent players from waiting and running around.

If you want to make thieving hard and force separate trade routes and thief routes, then you can do so by having full art players traveling your supposedly safe trade routes. This would lead to an increased chance of the thieves ambushing full art players. And if thieves lose, they don't get a TG point, lose gold from their arts, and most importantly are prevented from ambushing again for an hour.

DarkLillith, urgone's tactic is to make it so inconvenient for the thieves as well that the thieves would stop theiving. His solution only works if he can inconvenience that many thieves by that much.

Dude, that is just pathetic. Just win the battle, and you'll be doing more damage to the other side than you could ever imagine. "Pulling the cat by it's tail" is not a legitimate way to show your displeasure, but rather a childish one. Goes along well with the saying "I will never do thief missions". People who said that before either quit the game around level 7-8 or get stuck on levels 9-10 with no invite, and doing extra hard caravans for much longer periods. Thief guild is part of the game, and it was meant for everyone to play. Just like at some level you would want to do the Mercenary guild missions, same with the Thief guild.

So, want to be a pain in the ass for thiefs - become a thief yourself, get high initiative bonuses, get around the map with fully equipped artifacts, and the thief is bound to lose and trust me, nothing bums out a thief more than a loss. It's a lot of cash gone down the drain, and an hour from it - no way of thieving. Usually thieves don't do other missions in order to preserve their arts, so if a thief loses, he usually goes away for atleast an hour or even more. When I was doing my thief missions - people who were waiting out their turns would usually not get the time for it. As I played with the dark elves, even without the shrews, having enough enchanted weapons and initiative boosting artifacts, the mages most of the time could hardly find time to move one or 2 unites. If I could choose whom to fight on an ambush, I'd say AFK-ing mage who thinks he can annoy me by waiting out his turns. Free points and experience for me.

u couldn't agree with MrHellRaiser more. it is part of the game, you get extra stats, and most of the time a theif will return the money... if you ask nicley. it gives extra points, im a theif and i even like being ambushed bacause im not losing anything. complaining about a theif will not solve anyting

Whatever can say other contributors this topic this is a fact and only the most coward could disagree with that.

There's no glory to be a thief lvl X and i don't understand why some complain about victims wasting the thief time.
That's an incredibale discution where thieves want the target be compliant with the agressive thief behavior !

Wich pretty much equals to stoping TG completly, since you can't pick who you ambush, and the chance to meet a player is _always_ present. So the solution is - remove TG from the game completly?

It has been argued before that there should be an alternative to TG - some sort of Guards' Guild (random name) that would give bonuses of it's own, and players could chose between the two (but couldn't be in both of course) But untill and unless such a thing is implemented, TG is the only way to get permanent ini bonus. And ini matters. Therefore, majority of people will level up TG.

Ambush has been the part of this game from the start, so pls try to accept it other than weepin about it.
We thief also suffer more, with this AP rules, we burn a lot of gold against caravan... And sometimes we know that we couldn't win, but we always keep tryin...
For u ppl try search a topic that mention someone unable to return his TGI because of lack of gold and hard caravan battle...
So stop complaining about ambush ok...
For the benefit of some people who may not understand how thieving works,

1) An ambush triggered when one or more travellers (irrespective of combat levels) moves in a route which has an ambush set up by the thief.
2) If the traveller is of the same level as the thief, the player is ambushed. If two travellers of the same level as the thief travel at the same time, then both will be ambushed.
3) Otherwise, a random caravan would be triggered, if the traveller’s level is not the same as the thief.
4) The caravan would increase in difficulty everytime you defeat it, and if you lose to it, there is a good chance it will decrease in difficulty the next time you encounter it.

So, in response to urgone’s suggestion that we thieves should only ambush Misty-Rocky , how long do you want a thief to wait for an caravan to trigger? 1 hour, 2 hours, 5 hours? Even if an ambush can be triggered in 1 hour, I would be jumping in joy.

It seems that from the wording of your opinion, is that your main worry of falling into a thief’s ambush would be a loss of pride when losing a battle. You don’t like losing and therefore avoid situations where you will lose. I would go as far as saying that you resent the thief for getting generous amounts of exp/sp when you lose a token amount of gold.

You have to understand a thief also faces a lot of risk when (s)he ambush. The loss of arts durability is the main problem, as a full arts ambush costs more than 1000 per battle. Not to mention, the high risk of losing to a caravan is very real indeed.
I won't post my combyt logs since my caravans aren't that high...

in 20 caravans I get maybe 1 human caught - rest overpowered NPCs...
some correct for ambushes:

Thief put ambush, in that way goes some player +2/-2 lev from lev of thief. In that situation ambush sucseed and begin battle. Who will be the victim - caravan or player is random. Chanse of catching a player is small, but allways present.

For some players. Killing cretures is not honorable to, but here is a GAME. So all features presented here is for play.

and forgot to mention - wear full arts when you walk around map and you have good chance to kick butt of thief and earn a LOT of xp and faction points.....

i would say that whatever urgone ( or even any other in "anti-thief community") say and do to make it harder for a thief, i juz will not quit thieving. The bonus is good anyway. Wanna waste my time? sure, i ll take it. i have much time to spend anyway, LOL..
