#17 The first rule is not clear. Any reply to a topic is an answer.
By common sense, the topic started should be the one deciding if the answer was given or not. |

Because closing each topic as soon as possible is the new directive (among other things) given to all sages by their self-appointed leader, Queen_Amanda.
Their "Rules to live by" imply closing each thread as soon as the answer has been given (no matter how clueless as it seems), and maintain a facade of unity ("The days of mods over stepping each other is over."). Of course, this must be understood as "not overstepping Queen_Amanda".

Why do you need to write QATC ( = question answered topic closed ) before you close it?
Its a useless bump and brings a locked topic above on the list. Then other questions (which are not answered yet) can be overlooked more easily.
If you really want to use "the powers" just close it, but dont give it a bump. |

All I am saying is maybe give a chance for the questions to be answered fully and dont just close when it has received any answer (right or not). |

this is an approach other new sages should learn from. it represents the idea of the name of this forum section - "Queries and help", not "Overlooks and lock". |
Maybe we need a Guide for all new Sages so everybody can work hand in hand instead of working on our own.
I like those idea with waiting a couple of hours before topic will be closed. |

There is a lot of experience amongst the longer serving moderators who I am sure will be glad to help out and they have always been seen to do a great job with Q&H.
Personally I am taking things slowly in the other forum branches where I am a moderator and looking what others have been doing before taking any actions myself.
You could also maybe try hanging out in #266 clan chat room and then at least discuss things with the other new Q&H moderators and maybe some experienced ones like Queen_Amanda, Pantheon, Omega22 might be there at times too to help out? [[Just a suggestion]].
It is a new job for most of us and we will all make mistakes as we are getting out feet but overall these new recruits should make a big positive impact on the forums. |

Probably VERY experienced over others sage appointed by Cepruyc today, indeed. Probably enough too to enforce directive over other members of #266 clan... At least Pantheon and Omega22 have a couple months under their belly.

I don't remember seeing any such rule, but you're welcome to provide a link. IMHO, the only responsibility of a staff member is to look after people HE or SHE invited. At least that's the way it has worked on clans I've been member of. So basically all new mods and sages should report to Cepruyc.
But this is amusing for sure. Anyway, any input from the Higher Powers (I'm writing about Queen_Amanda here) would be good before this thread gets the QATC sentence. |

So here are some instructions(I made them up). I can only carry the spirit that Takesister left me. There is a little mess at the forum right now. I cant talk about mods, but sages, well, try not to do anything, until given proper instructions. We dont need to see closed topics super fast and bans flying around right now.
What Takesister would say: "Hi all, welcome at our nice little team. Be patient, nice and polite. Answer only those questions you are 100% sure you know the right answer. We dont need to add any confusion. If you are not sure, ignore the topic. Words of sages are sometimes referred to and we dont want to spread false info. Dont be too hasty with the buttons. You will learn to use all of them in time, but right now you can easily turn them off, there are lots of us, so if you are not sure, dont use any of them. Have a nice day."
There is more to it to learn about the buttons and when and how to use them, but thats not my job to teach.. |
Hmm call me a pessimist but I saw this coming. Being a newly installed Forum Mod, and thus not one with rights to QaH, I kept pondering why were topics being closed quite too soon. Slightly off-topic, I did see some on other forum branches as well, and I personally unlocked one which had no reason to be locked.
My take (opinion): let the one asking reply to the thread, at least.
On other issues, I have no opinions. Just putting myself in the shoes of newbies. :) |

Closing topic by moderators or admins should be VERY RARE case (only when it is necessary). And it doesn't matter which section (I mean not only Q&A). Forum should be used for discussion!
It is really annoying when you wait for other people to say their opinions and the topic is already closed.
Closing topics makes many garbage in the forum, because often the same topics are created again.
Moderators have to to do just the opposite (instead of closing topics) - to make sure that no new unnecessary topics were created. |
| I think personally questions in QaH should be left open, because if a new player opens a topic and asks a question, the response of well rounded sages could thereafter use terminology which a new player is not familiar with, causing them to have further questions about the issue, after they have posted and post "QATC" this is not always the case, as if their answer creates more questions relating to it the question isnt answered and so the topic shouldnt be closed for this reason |
