| One of my best mates from high school just came out as trans and will now be living his life as a woman, can hardly believe it. We haven't spoken much for like 10 years but it's a bit of a life shock. He was pretty macho, did not see that coming at all. Honestly flabbergasted. |

Your comment is full of ignorance. First, use "her" or "they" instead of him to address this person since we are talking about a trans woman. Secondly, Gender identity does not emerge in late adulthood.. which means that this woman has been suppressing her real identity for long enough so "keeping" her sense of identity is illogical.
I don't truly blame you for your ignorance but your words are pointlessly rude.
I was ignorant too until i talked with a real transgender girl in the real world. Not on the internet where you can quickly judge and disregard in your convenience.
Centering your identity around being trans makes you an idiot? Must they follow your rulebook? I know many facets of my identity involve me being a man. It is more nuanced only because I have lived my whole life of 25 years as a man and society taught me how to be a man through my father at first, then through my friends, neighbors, classmates, etc. There is no guidebook to being a trans - they are not strictly fitting into the man/woman binary. You can't expect of others to live a certain way or disregard them as idiotic for living a certain different way. |
