AuthorText Quests. Discussion thread.
#500 If may never do it, but it doesn't mean it's impossible :)
failed over 100 times ill tell u that the quest is impossible
impossible

then how'd people complete...? ;)

yes, I must admit, i've tried 11 times in the last hour, including my alternates, and I reached day 15, with 3 pop, ~80 provision, and 24% comp. just attacked by tiers 3 and 5....stupid bears and satyrs.
i just want some help in first quest who can give me some tips about the first days and mid days and then the last days
any recomendations?
I am in the first quest, and i just cant beat it

I dont see how this works, i need some help in general
there is a lot of luck included.
try to keep enoug workers on food and enough on recruiting and only use fighters when you think you will get attacked.

its no use to put some workers in fighting as you will loose anyway when you get attacked.

and then hope you are lucky enough and choose the right config on the right time.
What would you recommend for the first quest

I lost on the third day because my guys ran out of food for something like that

I have 20% 20% 20% 40%
for Great-Barb:
You shouldn't be using the same % for each day. You can actually see how much food you need and create enough for each day. Though it doesn't hurt to stockpile extra food if you can afford it.
hey i finished 15 days and got 50% completion how much completion do i need to complete the quest
hey i finished 15 days and got 50% completion how much completion do i need to complete the quest

At least 100%.
I still haven't finished the first quest - and I'd like to know, straight up; Is there any ACTUAL math involved in this? TO me it seems like complete, random luck.
Yes, basic math skill is ACTUALLY useful.

a.) understanding the probability of enemy attack.
b.) how to allocate your choices.
c.) how much food you actually need for the next turn.
That's not what I meant. Let me, uh, rephrase the question: Is it a purely mathematical problem, with an equally pure mathematical solution?

It seemed to me like luck was the major factor. I once got to Day 15 and finished at 110% by putting my entire workforce as foremen on the final day; way I figured was; I had enough population to withstand an attack and get through the day after finishing work, so why would I need food after the task was completed? I got through the day and finished fine, but then the CP failed me because there was no food left. AFTER day 15. At 110%. Does that even make sense? Is it a bug?

Anyway, I tried using the exact same sequence of combinations of population to get to Day 14 so I could get a do-over; but this time I ended up getting killed on day 8. So I tried using the same strategy I did for that game depending on the percentage of attack probability, I ended up dead on day 3.

Point is; if it's a math-BASED game with a LITTLE luck involved; you can find a solution eventually, and win without even getting lucky. If it's the other way around and is a LUCK-based game with only a little math involved; you may not pass no matter how many times you try, which is, basically, wasting time. Especially since it takes about five minutes to start over again and you push back your next hunt by at least twenty minutes by travelling. And that's why I want to know.

P.S: On an unrelated note; does the forum allow bold and italics in messages? Using caps for emphasis makes it looks like we're yelling at each other.

No. Both math and luck are needed.

Your reasoning is wrong. The solution would be a combination of math and luck . This means you also need luck.

f it's the other way around and is a LUCK-based game with only a little math involved; you may not pass no matter how many times you try
Also illogical reasoning. If only luck is involved, then the solution is to keep trying. The number of times you try is directly related to your success.

You can use the quotation (grey) function like I did in this post.
"Your reasoning is wrong. The solution would be a combination of math and luck . This means you also need luck."

Nope. Case in point: Games like the Marble-cancellation game. Needs both math and luck, but there exists at least one solution that's purely mathematical. Meaning if it's math-based, you use math to beat it. If it's luck based, you use luck to beat it.

Bottom line: What do you need more? Math or luck? Scale of percentages, like 90% math, 10% luck? Or the opposite?

P.S: Grey function doesn't work for me. What's the format?
In the line I quoted, you yourself had already deduced that the solution would require math and luck. In the text game there is both some leeway and variation with the solution, so there are many possible winning combinations.

There is no real scale of percentages on how much math or luck is required. But it is certain that both elements are needed. I doubt any real scale can be calculated out.

The grey function is quoting. If you highlight some text and click on the [q] under my post, then the text would turn grey. You can also type 'quote' text text '/quote' to do the same (replace ' with [ and ]).

To date I've tried nineteen times; and apart from that one time where I got failed at 110% (seriously, what's up with that? It keep bugging me.) I haven't made any progress. You realize that's more than three hours of play without even a penny to show for it? I'm gonna stay away.

Quote's cool. Do other bbcode tags work? Let's see...

Apparently not.
You generally don't really gain much gold from the tavern card games, combats, or text quest.

To date I've tried nineteen times
Many needed more tries than that. I won on my ~30th try.

failed at 110%
You probably either ran out of food or you didn't have the 200 population.
I was happy to complete the first quest but disappointed to go back and not have a follow-up.

Can we expect more text quests in the future?

Thanks,

Rohk
