AuthorDiscussion polygon: LWM Staff - Moderators
This really is a joke...the discussion is about moderator actions, and a bunch of KIDS from WGW steer right off topic--I only assume you're children/very-young-teens because of how poorly you write, and how flawed your reasoning skills are.

What I see here is exactly what I argued against MANY months ago, probably even before most of these new faces even started playing the game. Kotrin and his cronies were distributing positions of power among HIS circle. Now you'll see a bunch of mods saying "That's it, we quit too," bla bla bla. Whereas in my clan, we never cared for power. We always cared for Justice. If I were to quit tomorrow, none of the "powerful Jury members" as some of you have dubbed, would quit on that principle. That would be against what we represent. But if Kotrin acted silly when he was getting emotional...what to expect from his friends--several of whom are now mods thanks in great part to him + Shebali? I say let them all step down if they want. It only proves their selfish nature. Plenty of good minds on this server that don't see it as a "thank you to "x" person and "x" clan for giving me this job that pays me a monthly salary."

Whenever Kotrin isn't having a "bad day" he is quite fair. In fact, I learned to not post in the forums when he was having a Diva moment for precisely that reason. Why should I get myself banned because of a Mod's hard day? Whereas on any other day...whatever I had to say wouldn't get banned? This is why I think he was in a good position in the "Complaints and applications - Violations in tavern and battles" squad. He could be as moody and nasty as he wanted...few (if any) law-abiding citizens would of cried "foul" if he went too far there. I never did check out his justice on that forum, but if Kotrin was Kotrin there, he was dishing out penalties often...more than any other mod too I bet--which is a GOOD thing THERE. It is a shame he left that department, but again...what emotional people do under pressure is hard to predict.

I accepted the old way, as still a playable way to play. I thought to myself "It sucks, but I can still enjoy the game avoiding this guy when he is in a rotten mood." Now Kotrin is gone from the Forums...so I don't need to do this anymore...which is nice...what will I do with my new freedom? Time will tell what we'll all do once the dust of his Tyranny on the forum settles. It may even be too late...so many people stopped coming/reading in account of Kotrin...many will never even know he quit is the funny part.

Cheers,
LS
@59:

Isn't that Arctic's job to decide?

Certainly. But, I post my comment (#57), because I care about this community. If I can give a suggestion to make it better, why not ? Everybody make a mistake. And in our case, VERY BAD mistakes. And Arctic said in #1 that he will keep an eye on this topic. So hopefully he will read my post too.

I play this game since late May 2008 (when the server was not even 1 month old). I saw many things happened to this game/community. Even though I am barely play this game anymore (just enroll occasionally and fight when the workaholic penalty kicked in). But I feel sad to see the latest situation :(

And if I can make a suggestion to (hopefully) make it better, I'll do it. Because this game has give me a lot of fun and excitement for almost 2 years.
(Well, not anymore because I found another interesting game). But let's just say that I will still be around and I do hope to see a better future for this game.
Will we need a new moderator now Kotrin is gone?
(just asking, I don't want to apply for being a moderator or something like that)
that pays me a monthly salary
yeah, thats only the theory. Look at transferlogs from moderators. They stopped giving mods / sages salary since november last year.
Moderators do their best to make this forum a better place. A spamfree forum, thats the reward :)
for limustudotcom:
Why not leave the personal attacks to private mail? It makes you look as childish as you call some WGW . Time to stop bickering between the clans and get to the heart of the matter.
This really is a joke...the discussion is about moderator actions, and a bunch of KIDS from WGW steer right off topic--I only assume you're children/very-young-teens because of how poorly you write, and how flawed your reasoning skills are.

I assume you haven't recognized this is an international server and not everyone speaks English as native language. I therefore challenge you to learn perfect German for discussing with me in a more eloquent way.

Calling people "KIDS" who don't talk your language in a proper way is a REALLY mature way to begin your boasting.

Your posting shows really well, what this topic is about: Personal dislike among some players.

Now waiting for Chuck...
Time will tell what we'll all do once the dust of his Tyranny on the forum settles. It may even be too late...so many people stopped coming/reading in account of Kotrin...many will never even know he quit is the funny part.

limustudotcom -

I've read a lot of your posts in my time here. I may not always agree with you, but you normally seem to be very rational and logical in your postings. The above statement is disingenuous in the extreme and pure hyperbole. You seem to imply that Kotrin single-handedly is responsible for the mass exodus we have witnessed of good players, or at least many of them.

I'm not taking sides here at all. Read all my posts in this thread, I am being fairly unbiased in that I'm bashing all the staff and Arctic too. I feel like they have all failed to a large degree, regardless of their clan affiliation.
Mods and admins actions are not to be questioned:)
right?

wrong, mods can be questioned through message to secretary, admins cannot be questioned
For all seek to learn from history.

The only conflicts that have been resolved successfully in the long term have been done by peace. Look at Gandhi and Martin Luther versus every other war pretty much. This highlights the other through staunch resolve in taking the higher ground.

In other words, don't fling mud back at the other side, make ones point strongly if needed, but without aggression. Things only leads to a spiral of negativity.

What I will say, there is inconsistency in MODS actions, this is expected. Has it perhaps been too great in variability and application. More than likely. Therefore a better description and more people to do the job (and motivated to do it through maintained rewards) is needed.

Should it be necessary to have MODS with no obvious political persuasion. It shouldn't, as it should not influence their actions.

Would having MODS with no Clan affiliation help prevent potential back lash - maybe - so long as the main character they were attched to remained hidden

This is probably untenable given reward system as would provide financial tracking.

Overall. Is this teh main problem or a symptom of a larger issue. Probably a symptom of greater misgivings from lack of communication etc.

Therefore will any stop gap solution proposed in this forum ultimately stop any problems. Probably not, but may keep people hapy for a bit longer.

For example, look at the Jury appointment. Kept people happy for a while, until realisation that nothing had actually changed, just a brief PR stunt.

Actually, I never said Kotrin is responsible for the mass exodus from the game...he wasn't that horrible..but I stick to it that he is largely in part responsible for the large exodus out of FORUM activity. Large exodus from the game is due to the Administration, if you have been reading my posts from other threads in the past, you would know this.

I thought I had made that distinction clear when I said that I found the situation still playable--as it was an inconvenience only on my time in the Forums. I hope with this post..my position is crystal clear now.

#66:

I clearly illustrated why I thought some WGW members were merely some kids with developing grammar: poor arguments backed by poor writing. If English is not your native language, I do apologize for my assumption. But this is an English server to hopefully attract an international audience...not an international server...only English is allowed in the Forums the last time I checked--not every language on the planet. So I do not have accept your "German challenge" because...well...I joined an English speaking server because I speak English natively :) I will keep this fact in mind for the future should we ever discuss anything again, and give you a little more respect in light of this new information.

Cheers,
LS
I still don't see the masses of players who complain about mod power abuse

Right, after a Mod deletes a post, or entire thread, you can't see it. And this has happened, at times when a player questioned a Mod.

But more to your points about WGW and LOS, I think it is safe to say there are some members in each clan that dont like (perhaps hate) each other. And there are many members that get along with (even friends) each other. But most of them don't even know each other.

It really isnt LOS or WGW or any other clan that is the issue, the fact that many Mods are in WGW and those in jurries are all LOS is unfortunate. Perhaps it was poor judgment to allow this and needs to be changed, but really it is irrelevant.

(a quick side note before #591 LWM - Juries was formed 8 people were selected to be on juries. Arctic in charge of 4, DEATHisNEAR, Modi, and I believe Zarebrant and God5end. cepruyc in charge of Halvspak, Takesister, Kotrin, and Vonemar. cepruyc went on vacation about as soon as we were told this, and to this day nothing has been done with the work his team did. In trying to figure out what was going on I got in contact with Arctic and got on board with what he was doing. I have no idea why the others who where to be under cepruyc were not invited to #591 LWM - Juries. I believe Arctic took the LOS members so he could "watch" them, I hadnt joined LOS until after I was named on juries. But jury members have no more power than any other player. OK not such a quick side not but I tried.)

I have never said one side or person is right, or wrong. In fact I can see fault and blame on both sides and everyone involved. But I fail to see the point in arguing about who is right, or pointing fingers, or thinking one side or the other can say WIN. If we are to do anything it is to try and find a way so this doesnt continue to happen or happen again. Since we to have some control over this and lack any influence over more urgent server issues.
...and...

This is a trivial matter in the perspective of:
1) Admin's activity
2) Ubisoft legal issues
3) Server upgrades/events
4) Cheats
... but one which we can try and improve for the better. We have no control at all over 1), 2) & 3) and can do very little about 4) without the admins support.

If we want to improve this server for ourselves then we need to stick together. People should be able to say whatever they wish on the forums as long as they dont break any of the "real" rules. e.g. no swearing, spamming, flooding, insulting others, etc. Any post which presents a reasoned arguement in a constructive manner without insulting others has as much right to be read as any other! Whether you as a reader have the same opinion or not.

Everyone deserves to be able to write their posts and express their views without fear of becoming a target for continous repression and punishment because a moderator has a personal problem with them for whatever reason.

Like the juries, the moderators need to act fairly and impartially to all and the majority do.

Hopefully with Kotrin's "resignation" we have taken the first step to having one set of rules for everyone
Now we are stating all the rules of the forum, why don't we make sure some of the hundreds of cheaters get banned? I reported cheaters over and over again, I'm starting to think my actions are useless... I reported almost 200 cheaters, not a silly bunch, don't you think? Players that got banned or fined: 0

I just hope that the admins will take their responsibility and let fair players play while cheaters get banned.

Best regards,
RG
wrong, mods can be questioned through message to secretary, admins cannot be questioned

You must be joking, write the secretary. Yes and get in your rocket ship and deliver the message to the moon while your at it.

Sorry for the comments but telling someone to write the secretary is the biggest slap in the face. Who is the secretary? Same person people as Admins. Enough said.
I see, I went for about 2 hours, and we are still discussion who has the biggest hammer ? Come on.

We are all to be blamed. Kotrin, Modi, DEATHisNEAR, Faithbringer, Arctic and much more. (I think I have fairly balances each clans).

Its all a matter of : Who will break out first, the mods or the players. Well the mods are guilty of abusing their powers, and the players are guilty of pushing the limits of the rule breaking. Thats how I see it, thats how it has been since the beginning. Some people likes to test limits of others and it happens so that people lose control.

Human nature.

About Arctic, he had the power to stop all this way before it comes out publicly, he didnt, even worse, he made himself that thread.

Thanks for the clarification, you have made your position clear. I still feel your statement was rather hyperbolic, but that's simply my opinion and, as such, is largely irrelevant to this discussion.

Back OT - Is anyone here surprised that once again, the old wounds from the interminable Mods vs Juries war have been reopened? This outcome should have been readily apparent to nearly anyone within about 10 seconds of reading the start of the thread. This thread has to be one of the most ill-advised by a staff member that I've ever seen in any forum anywhere on the internet. The divisiveness grows...
And people wonder why there is no resolution in sight . Maybe if you would stop the finger pointing and playing the blame game we may be able to resolve this. As I see it everyones at fault for acting like children instead of adults we are suppose to be. Gee could that be the reason admins don't come here ? This is a game not a day care center .
I want to give my opinion about moderators and the forum from a new member's perspective.

I have been playing for about 2 months and, being the kind of person who hates violating rules, conscienciously read the forum rules, and have always kept them in mind when posting comments. However I have observed so many people being banned for reasons, as a newbie, i couldn't understand that I have been hesitant to post. The forum seems to be a minefield for getting banned. I can't blame any specific moderator for this, perhaps it's just that it takes time to understand all the rules when you first start playing this game.

In my opinion the forum is intimidating for newbies, rather than a fun place to post, and that is not the way it should be.

I have seen quite afew arguments over rules, which makes it evident that the rules are not clear. Perhaps they need reviewing.

These concerns may not really be relevant or important in the face of other problems I have been reading about concerning the life of the server. But I really enjoy playing here and wanted to give my opinion even if I am witnessing the death throes of LOWM
Arctic, please close this thread.

Solve problems by pm, not in public.
This is not the way.
